Top 1: Tianmen Mountain Cable Car - Longest Cable Car Ride in the World

Tianmen Mountain Cable Car

• Length: 7,455 meters
• Opening Hours: 09:00-17:00
• Duration: 28 minutes
• Ticket: single-way cableway is included in the entrance fee (CNY 235 per person)
• Address of Lower Station: Northwest Corner of the Intersection of Dayong Road and Yingbin Road, Zhangjiajie (张家界市大庸路与迎宾路路口西北角，天门山索道下站)
• Address of Upper Station: Tianmen Mountain, Yongding District, Zhangjiajie, Hunan, China (张家界永定区天门山，天门山索道)

Straddling a distance of 7,455 meters, Tianmen Mountain (Tianmen Shan) ropeway is regarded as the longest cable car ride in the world. The cable car starts from Zhangjiajie downtown to the mountain top directly. The whole journey takes about 28 minutes. On the way, you could enjoy the panorama view of Zhangjiajie City and also the amazing natural surroundings. You will sweep over rooftops, fields, lakes, forests, and travel through hills.

A single-way cable car journey is included in the Tianmen mountain entrance fee. And usually, travelers ride the cable car to the mountain top and try the 99 Bends Sightseeing Bus (also included) to get down. The lower station of Tianmen Mountain Cable Car is settled in Zhangjiajie downtown, about 1 km away from Zhangjiajie Railway Station (张家界站). You can reach the lower station by taxi or bus. The upper station of the Cable Car lies on the edge of the mountain top.

Warm tip: On the top of Tianmen Mountain, there are also Forest Sightseeing Cable Cars, ferrying tourist from Yunmen Fairy Peak (云梦仙顶) to the opposite peak (where Tianmenshan Temple is located). The sightseeing cable car charges 25 for a one-way trip, if you are interested, you could take the lift to the upper cable car station or to Yunmen Fairy Peak to have a try.

Top 2: Bailong Elevator - Tallest Outdoor Elevator in the World

Bailong Elevator, also known as Hundred Dragons Elevator, is the tallest outdoor elevator in the world. The elevator is settled inside Wulingyuan Scenic Area, the core scenic area of Zhangjiajie. It takes tourists from the bottom of Yuanjiajie to the mountain top to explore the stunning natural scenery of Hallelujah Mountain. Also, it allows visitors to travel down the mountain in ease and convenience after the mountaintop hiking tour. Hiking up to the mountain top of Yuanjiajie needs at least 2 hours, while you can arrive at the top in only 2 minutes if you choose Bailong Elevator.

Wulingyuan Scenic Area is a huge system, which has 5 entrances in total. The nearest and most convenient entrances to Bailong elevator are the south gate Zimugang Ticket Station (梓木岗门票站) and the east gate Wujiayu Ticket Station (吴家裕门票站). From these entrances, you could take free sightseeing buses to the lower station of the elevator directly.

Top 3: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park Cable Car - Good Time-saving Option

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park Cable Car

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is the firstly discovered and most famous part of Wulingyuan Scenic Area. On the west side of the park is Huangshi Village (黄石寨). If you have ever read some guides of the park, you’d heard that Huangshi Village is one of the most attractive sites of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. And yes, it is! At Huangshi Village, you could have the broadest view of the most spectacular sky-pointing pillars of the park!

Though it is called a village, Huangshi Village is actually not a village but a small collection of houses setting on the top of one of the columns in the park. On the mountain top, there is also a loop for hiking and sightseeing. Tourists usually spend about 2-3 hours to finish the loop. To get to Huangshi Village, you can trek uphill or ride a cable car. Trekking to the top needs about 1 hour from the bottom. The cable cars can take you to the mountain top in about 6 minutes. If you are planning to have an extending hiking tour along Golden Whip Stream in that day, you are suggested to take cable cars for ascend and descend.

Among the 5 entrances of Wulingyuan Scenic Area, Forest Park Ticket Station (森林公园门票站) is the closest to visit Huangshi Village. Once go inside from the entrance, walk to Oxygen Square (氧吧广场), from where you can find signs marking the entrance to the trail up to Huangshi Village and also free sightseeing buses to the lower cable car station. Top 4: Tianzi Mountain Cable Car - Longest and Highest Cable Car in Wulingyuan

As the largest area of Wulingyuan, Tianzi Mountain is also a hiking paradise. Along the hiking journey, you will get close to a rich array of highlights for your best visual enjoyment, such as Ten-mile Gallery (十里画廊), Tianzi Pavilion (天子阁), Fields in the Air (空中田园)… Ten-mile Gallery is a valley settled on the bottom of Tianzi Mountain. There are 3 routes to get to the top. The fastest way is to take the Tianzi Mountain Cable Car which is the longest and also the highest cable car in the whole Wulingyuan Scenic Area. You can reach the top in around 10 minutes. You can also hike from the entrance of Ten-mile Gallery or from the Sansuo Crossing (三所消防站) to reach Tianzi Mountain. The first hiking route needs about 3 hours to get to the top. The second hiking route takes about 2 hours. Choose your way according to your plan, time and physical condition. Usually, you are suggested to take a one-way journey up to the top or travel down from the top by cable car.

Top 5: Yangjiajie Cable Car - Great Alternative Way for Uphill and Downhill

Yangjiajie Cable Car

Instead of being narrow and straight, the pillars in Yangjiajie gather together and stand like a wall, giving you a glimpse of what the rest parts of Wulingyuan are like hundreds of years ago. The most popular route to travel Yangjiajie is from Yuanjiajie. Tourists explore the narrow and straight Hallelujah Mountains in Yuanjiajie first and then catch a free sightseeing bus to Yangjiajie. At the end of the day, hinging or riding a cable car to make a descend from the top and get out of Wulingyuan from Forest Park Ticket Station (森林公园门票站). The lower station of the cable car is the ending point for both hiking and riding cable cars. From the lower station, you can take free sightseeing buses to the upper station of Dragon and Phoenix Nunnery (Longfeng An 龙凤庵). After that, walk for about 20 mins from Longfengan upper station to Longfengan lower station parking lot. Finally, take a sightseeing bus to go out.

How to Organize Zhangjiajie Itinerary with Cable Cars in the Recommended Way

You are suggested to take one of them at least once, because every individual scenic area of Zhangjiajie needs at least 2 hours' hiking and sightseeing. On the day to visit Tianmen Mountain, you are advised to take the cable car to the mountain top first and choose a sightseeing bus to go downhill and finish your journey.
