Shanghai operates over 130 daily high speed trains to Hangzhou, which give tourists a quick and comfortable transportation to travel between the two attractive cities. Most of the available high speed trains are G-trains – faster than D-trains usually. The earliest train G7514 departs from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station at 06:06 and arrives in Hangzhou East Railway Station at 06:56. The lasted departs from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station at 21:30 and arrives in Hangzhou Railway Station at 22:28. In the daytime, you can conveniently choose a train according to your own time. Many trains will take you from Hangzhou to Shanghai within 1 hour. If you want to have a more budget train tour, it is also available to take some normal trains from Shanghai South Railway Station to Hangzhou.

Shanghai Hangzhou Railway, about 144km (90 miles) long, passes through some small cities and towns in Zhejiang, like Jiashan, Jiaxing, Tongxiang, Yuhang, etc. There are some nonstop trains, by which you can get to Hangzhou from Shanghai directly. Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station (上海虹桥站)
Location: No. 1500, Mingui Road, Minhang District. (上海市闵行区申贵路1500号)
Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station is the main high speed railway station in Shanghai. It runs high speed trains to Beijing, Wuhan, Nanjing, Hanghzou, Suzhou Kunming, etc. Close to Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, it can be reached easily by Maglev Train, metro Line 2, metro Line 10, taxi and public bus. Shanghai Railway Station (上海站)
Location: No. 303, Moling Road, Jing'an District (上海市静安区秣陵路303号)
Located in the city center, Shanghai Railway Station can be reached by subway (metro Line 1, Line 3 and Line 4) conveniently. From Shanghai Railway Station, you can take metro Line 1 to Nanjing Road quickly. And then you can visit the Bund by walking. It operates some high speed trains as well as the majority of regular trains to/from 70 domestic large and middle-sized cities.
Hangzhou East Railway Station (Hangzhoudong Railway Station, 杭州东站)
Location: No.1 Tiancheng Road, Jianggan District, Hangzhou (杭州市江干区天城路1号)
Located in Jianggan District, Hangzhou East Railway Station is about 10km (about 25 minutes’ driving) to West Lake and 30km (about 40 minutes’ driving) to Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport. It can be reached by metro Line 1 and Line 4. As the main train station in Hangzhou, it serves both high speed trains and normal trains.
Hangzhou Railway Station (杭州站)
Location: No.1 Huancheng East Road, Shangcheng District, Hangzhou (浙江省杭州市上城区环城东路1号)
Hangzhou Railway Station is an old train station usually referred as City Station by local people. It is just 3km (about 10 minutes’ driving) to West Lake and 30km (about 40 minutes’ driving) to Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport. You can get there by metro Line 1, airport shuttle bus and taxi.
Types of SeatsThere are Second Class Seats, First Class Seats and Business Class Seats on most high speed G-trains. The second class is the standard type at a budget price. The First Class Seats feature in much quieter and more comfortable environment. The Business Class Seats offer a luxury experience onboard. Book, Collect, Alter and Cancel a Ticket
The train ticket can be booked online, with a ticket agency, at the ticket offices in railway stations etc. Remember to book your ticket as soon as possible, especially in the peak seasons. Reading tickets carefully to make sure that you get to the correct railway station and board the correct train. For foreign travelers without Chinese ID card, you have to collect, alter and cancel your train ticket from the ticket offices. Board & Disembark a Train
1) Prepare your documents well (passport, visa); 2) Get to the right trains station in advance 3) collect train tickets; 4) Read your train ticket; 5) Pass the Identity Check; 6) Security check & luggage check; 7) Find right waiting room; 8) Cross the ticket checking gate; 9) Get to the right platform; 10) Get on your train. Each passenger is able to take a high speed train with personal luggage in certain weight and volume without limitation of amount and types. Generally, the luggage won’t be weighed and measured specifically, so you can take as much as you can hand it independently and place it in the train station.
