Chengdu Tianfu International Airport has opened on June 27, 2021!

Chengdu Tianfu International Airport (成都天府国际机场) is located in Lujia Town, Jianyang, East High Tech Zone, Chengdu, about 50 km away from Tianfu Square (Chengdu City Center). It is the largest civil transport hub airport project. It is built as the national international aviation hub of Chengdu and the highest level airport in the Silk Road Economic Belt. It is planned to operate most international flights of Chengdu, and serves as a "first-class international and domestic airport" airport. Phase I project of the airport is designed to meet the target of having an initial capacity of 40 million passengers, 70,000 tons of cargo and mail throughput and 30,000 aircraft take-off and landing by 2025. This new airport has built two terminals and three runways, and its grade of the flight area is 4F, and the total aircraft resources are 210. In the long-term project, three more runways will be built. The total area of the airport terminal is 719,600 square meters, meeting the annual passenger throughput demand of 90 million people.

The configuration of the two terminals takes the unique mythical figure of the ancient Sichuan - golden sunbird, which implies that the ancient civilization has experienced more than 3,000 years of inheritance and growth in this magical land of Chengdu. The building itself is about 330,000 square meters, equivalent to 46 standard football fields with 5 floors above ground and 2 floors underground.

The first three runways has been completed in phase one of construction and the rest three runways are be completed in phase two, all crossing the terminals. From the circular core, 6 arms stretch outwards with both terminals mirroring the other and embracing the aircrafts.

In the first Summer & Autumn season, Tianfu International Airport operates more than 100 flights between Chengdu and over 80 domestic destinations, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Xiamen, Lhasa, Sanya, Guilin, Lijiang, Jiuzhaigou and other major tourist cities. The officials plan to spend 2 years moving the international flights from Shuangliu Airport to the new Tianfu International Airport.

How to Get to Chengdu Tianfu International Airport?

Chengdu Tianfu International Airport is located in the southeast outskirts of Chengdu. It is about 50 km to Tianfu Square (Chengdu City Center), 73 km to Chengdu Shaungliu Airport, 42 km to Chengdu East Railway Station (high speed train station), 80 km to Chengdu Panda Base and 20 km to Jianyang City.

Chengdu Tianfu International Airport has a very convenient transferring hall - GTC, which is a comprehensive transport hub integrating multiple ways like metro, high speed train, taxi, bus, etc. PRT system will be used later to transfer between T1 and T2. The new Tianfu Airport connects Chengdu city with urban subway, expressway, highway, taxi, private car, long-distance bus, and has been equipped with intelligent car system (PRT) at the parking lot. The terminal traffic center is located between the two terminals.

Chengdu Tianfu International Airport is about 50 km away from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport. ▶Metro to Chengdu Tianfu Airport

Chengdu Metro Line 18 starts from Chengdu South Railway Station (成都南站) and runs to the Tianfu International Airport. You can get off at the Tianfu Airport Terminal 1 & 2 Station (天府机场1号2号航站楼 地铁站) and Tianfu Airport North Station (天府机场北 地铁站). The subway ride takes about 37 minutes to 1 hour, depending on it's a fast speed metro or normal speed one. So far, this direct metro line is the most convenient public transportation. In the future, Chengdu Metro Line 19 will be constructed (open in 2023) to link the Shuangliu Airport and Tianfu International Airport.

▶Airport Shuttle Bus to Chengdu Tianfu Airport

There are daily airport buses running from Chunxi Road and Chengdu East Railway Station to Chengdu Tianfu International Airport. Airport Bus Line 1 departs from the Panda Statue in IFS, Chunxi Road from 07:00 to 20:00 every day, and Line 2 starts from the West Square of Chengdu East Railway Station between 07:00 and 20:00. It takes about 1 hour to Tianfu Airport from the two places.

▶Taxi a Taxi/Private Car to Chengdu Tianfu Airport (Most Recommended)

It takes about 1 hour to drive from the downtown Chengdu to Chengdu Tianfu International Airport via the newly-built Tianfu Airport Expressway. If you depart from Chengdu Panda Base, the ride needs about 1 hour 10 minutes.

In the early stage, Chengdu Tianfu International Airport opens more than 40 long-distance bus routes with the surrounding cities, including Leshan, Meishan, Kangding, Mianyang, Zigong, Ziyang, Ya'an, Xichang, Chongqing, Guanghan, Neijiang, etc.

▶High Speed Train to Chengdu Tianfu Airport

Chengdu Tianfu International Airport is one of the stops on the Chengdu-Zigong High Speed Railway, which departs from Chengdu East Railway Station and ends in Zigong East Railway Station. The scheduled running speed of the train is 350 km/h, so after the operation, it's very fast to get from Chengdu East Railway Station to Tianfu International Airport by the high speed bullet train. Another railroad - Chengdu-Nanchong-Dazhou-Wanzhou High Speed Railway also pass the airport.(At present, Chendgu East Railway Station has over 10 high speed intercity trains to Jianyang South Railway Station. The trip is 17-23 minutes. It takes about 30 minutes to transfer from Jianyang South Railway Station to Tianfu International Airport.)

There are airport shuttle buses running to Tianfu Airport from Jianyang City East Bus Station (简阳城东客运站). And, fast buses lines - K series buses are offered for transfering between the airport and downtown Jianyang.
