Zhangjiajie is located in the northwestern part of Hunan Province in China. Though it is a small city, Zhangjiajie is a perfect combination of the idyllic beauty of Guilin, the grotesqueness of Yellow Mountain, the peril of Mount Hua and the magnificence of Mount Tai.
There are two famous scenic areas located in the north and south of Zhangjiajie downtown area. One is Wulingyuan Scenic Area including Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Golden Whip Stream, Huangshi Village, Yuanjiajie, Yangjiajie, Tianzi Mountain, etc. The other is Tianmen Mountain, the second National Forest Park in Zhangjiajie after Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. Zhangjiajie, located in the northwest of Hunan Province, belongs to subtropical humid monsoon climate with four distinct seasons. It’s neither cold in winter or hot in summer. The temperature rarely exceeds 37 °C or falls below 4 °C. The average annual temperature around 16 °C.
The scenery of Zhangjiajie varies from season to season. Travelers can enjoy different scenery in different seasons. In spring, the weather is pleasant with all the flowers on mountain blossom and mountains turn green. In summer, visit Zhangjiajie during summer time is cool. You can enjoy the cloud and fog spectacle in Tianmen Mountain, West Sea in Wulingyuan Scenic Area. In autumn, national parks and mountain turns yellow. If you visit during National Day between Oct.1-Oct.7, please make sure everything reserved beforehand. In winter, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park turns into a pure white world and all the mountains, trees and roads are covered by snow. Transfer to Zhangjiajie
Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport is 6 km from downtown area. It has flights from Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Changsha, Chengdu, Chongqing, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Qingdao and more destinations in China.
Zhangjiajie Railway Station is about 2 km from downtown area. Trains are connected Zhangjiajie with Changsha (6 hrs), Yichang (5 hrs), Beijing, Shanghai, Kunming, Guangzhou, etc. Some travelers choose to transfer from Changsha and then get to Zhangjiajie by train. Some travelers prefer a Yangtze River cruise from Chongqing to Yichang and then take train from Yichang to Zhangjiajie. It is not recommended take trains from Beijing or Shanghai to Zhangjiajie for the long hours on train. You’d better go by air instead.
Transfer within Zhangjiajie
From Zhangjiajie Bus Station, there are direct buses to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Tianzi Mountain, Suoxiyu. Many buses, like No. 4, 5, 6, 10, are available to reach Tianmen Mountain.
