1 Day Suzhou Itinerary
If you only have one day to visit in Suzhou, you can choose to take a city tour of Suzhou including classical gardens in the city downtown, or take a side trip to the ancient water town in the suburbs to enjoy a different kind of Suzhou water town tour.
Plan A: 1 Day Suzhou City Tour Itinerary
For tourists who are in limited time and want to fully explore the essence of Suzhou's city area, one museum + one classic garden + one ancient street is a classic combination for most people. In the morning, you can choose to go to either the Suzhou Museum or the Suzhou Silk Museum to fully appreciate the history and culture of the Suzhou area. Then head to one of the Classical Gardens of Suzhou, and the most recommended is the Humble Administrator's Garden, which known as the "Mother of the World's Classical Gardens", or the Lingering Garden, one of the "Top Four Classical Gardens in China". Both of them are UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you can fully appreciate the elegance of the classical gardens in the Jiangnan (south of the Yangtze River) area. When night falls, continue to either Pingjiang Road or Shantang Street to fully experience the charm of Jiangnan ancient street. These two ancient streets are built along the river, and even in the city area, you can get a glimpse of the water town in Suzhou.

Plan B: 1 Day Suzhou Water Town Itinerary
Suzhou water towns are mostly located in the suburbs, and you can choose to travel from Suzhou city or directly from Shanghai to the nearby water towns. Tongli or Zhouzhuang Water Town are the most recommended, which are respectively about 30 km (45 minutes by car) and 40 km (1 hour by car) from Suzhou, and about 90 km (2 hours by car) and 70 km (1.5 hours by car) from Shanghai. Tongli is one of the top six ancient towns in Jiangnan area, which is world reputed as the "Oriental Venice" with its more than 1000-year-old history, authentic features of old buildings, rich old rivers, simple folk culture of locals. Zhouzhuang is not only the "No. 1 Water Town in China" but also one of the top ten tourist attractions in China favored by European people. Here you can feel its long history of about 1000 years and admire the authentic features of water town in regions south of the Yangtze River in China.

2 Days Suzhou Itinerary
If you have two days in Suzhou, you can choose between a two-day classic itinerary that includes both classic gardens in city downtown and water towns in suburban area, or a two-day in-depth tour of the city highlights.
Plan A: 2 Days Suzhou City & Water Town Itinerary
A 2-day itinerary that includes both Suzhou city highlights and water towns is often the choice of most tourists, and you can arrange a one-day trip to the water towns based on the above one-day itinerary (one museum + one classic garden + one ancient street) or your own Suzhou DIY itinerary. Considering factors such as time, distance, and the value, we recommend that you choose Zhouzhuang - No. 1 Water Town in China, Tongli - Enjoy a Poetic Dream of Chinese Water Town, or Luzhi Water Town - Quiet Ancient Village in Suzhou Suburb. Since most of water towns are located in the suburbs far from the city downtown with inconvenient transportation, we strongly recommend you choose our Suzhou tour packages including water towns with English-speaking guide and private driver or customize the itinerary that includes the water towns according to your needs.
