No.1: Mausoleum of Genghis Khan

The Mausoleum of Genghis Khan, located about 40 km away from Ordos, is a temple devoted to the worship of Genghis Khan. With beautiful grassland environment and mysterious cultural landscape, Mausoleum of Genghis Khan is the most reputed tourist attraction in Inner Mongolia. When traveling in this tomb, travelers can not only experience the unique Mongolian history and culture, but the solemn and mysterious memorial ceremonies.

Besides the legends of Genghis Khan, there are some sites to visit in this mausoleum. The main building is composed of three Mongolia halls and bungalow. The whole building can be divided into six parts, including the main hall, mausoleum, east hall, west hall, east gallery and west gallery. Special sacrificial ceremonies take place here four times a year on certain days of the lunar calendar. On the occasions, Mongolian monks lead solemn rituals that involve piling up cooked sheep before the statue of the Khan. And some other interesting activities are also provided.

No.2: Resonant Sand Bay

Resonant Sand Bay is situated in Ordos. It is 44 km from the city of Baotou in the north and 55 km from Dongsheng District of Ordos in the south. Resonant Sand Bay is featured by its amazing desert landscape and the whispering sand dunes. In the conditions of the dry climate, people will hear sounds like a bugle and drumbeat in the sand if they surf along the slopes of the dunes. The sand dunes stretch as far as the eye can see and form a magnificent landscape.

Travelers could spend half day or a full day trip to the Resonant Sand Bay. They can participate in sand exploration, horse and camel riding, glider flying, motor racing, target practice, arrow shooting, sand baths and swimming. Living in a Mongolian tent, eating mutton by hand, tasting fresh milk and Ordos wine, they can also appreciate Ordos songs and dances and a unique Ordos wedding performance performed by the Xiangshawan Artistic Troupe.

How to Get to Ordos

In Ordos, there is one airport and one railway station and long distance bus stations. Travelers could reach Ordos by air, rail or coach.
● Ordos Airport is 45 km from downtown and 20 km from Mausoleum of Genghis Khan. Flights are connecting Ordos with Hohhot, Beijing, Xian, Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Harbin, Chengdu and Kunming etc.
● From Ordos Dongsheng West Railway Station, there are some trains to Hohhot, Beijing, Baotou, Xian etc. It takes about three hours to Hohhot, 1 hour and 10 minutes to Baotou and 14 hours to Beijing.
● Ordos Long Distance Bus Station serves buses to Hohhot, Baotou, and Shijiazhuang etc.
