After breakfast, enjoy a car journey from Hohhot to Xilamuren Grassland (90 km away, about 1.5 hours’ driving). Xilamuren means “Golden River” in Mongolian and the grassland is the nearest one to Hohhot and the earliest one in Inner Mongolia.

There are some featured activities on Xilamuren Grassland. (a) You’ll be warmly welcomed by local Mongolians who are colorfully dressed. They’ll present you a silver cup of wine and Hada; (b) Appreciate the beautiful scenery of the grassland; (c) Taste some local favorites such as mutton and other traditional cuisines; (d) Take an optional horseback riding to visit a herdsman’s family and Aobao Hill (at your own expenses); (e) Enjoy some traditional Mongolian activities like archery, horse racing, and Mongolian-style-wrestling performances. (f) In the evening, take part in a bonfire party and enjoy traditional dancing and local songs presented by the local Mongolians.

Stay overnight in Mongolian chariot yurts or deluxe yurts.

Good to Know: There are three famous grasslands near Hohhot, including Xilamuren Grassland, Gegentala Grassland (140 km) and Huitengxile Grassland (135 km). The itinerary could be tailor-made according to your preference.

The sunrise on the grassland is one of the greatest marvelous spectacles in nature. If you don't want to miss the chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery on the grassland, you’d better get up early in the morning. Watch sunrise and see everything turns brighter and brighter.

After breakfast, enjoy some free time to walk around and breathe some fresh air. It will be a fantastic morning before you transfer back to the desert. Enjoy 3.5 hours’ car journey to Resonant Sand Bay which is 44 km south of Baotou. Resonant Sand Bay is featured by its amazing desert landscape and the whispering sand dunes. Then, drive to Hohhot and have a nice exploration in Hohhot city. Visit Dazhao Temple, the largest and most famous Tibetan Buddhism shrine in Hohhot. It also boasts the impressive buildings, a large collection of religious and cultural relics, among which the silver statue of Buddha, dragon sculpture and frescos are the most cherished treasures.

Hi Echo,

I just wanted to drop you a line to say a huge “thank you” for organising our wonderful trip to China!

Both myself and Claire had an absolutely fantastic time and seeing China of today was awe inspiring.

We were delighted with the itinerary – although tough, (hotels, trains, planes and cars), it was worth getting to see every iconic site and more besides!!

We met the wonderful guides and drivers on our travels, and although it is very difficult to single any out one, I thought Danny, who looked after us in Guilin and the surrounding areas – was incredible.

The other guides were equally fantastic and they ensured we visited every site and more, to really make our trip to China a fantastic and memorable trip of a lifetime!

Thank you again for all your assistance and help you have provided over the past few months – you made this a trip to always remember.

If you could pass on both Claire and my thanks to everyone involved in making our trip very special, I would really appreciate it!

Best regards always,

Review of China Discovery

Pending review

Our group of 7 toured 3 weeks across China from Shanghai to Tibet. It was to be the trip of a lifetime, and it was. In my due process to search for the best itinerary and TA for us, I found Leo Li of China Discovery. Compared to other top in-China TAs, CD and Leo Li gave me everything I wanted including the best price for the desired itinerary. None of us were strangers to China. I was born there and had been there 5 times since, while the others had toured the capital cities but never the remote regions of Hunan, Sichuan, Yunnan, and Tibet.

We were always prompted met with a guide as soon as we left the airport security area; we were transported in clean mini-vans with plenty of bottled water. It was always door-to-door everytime. We would be dropped off at one end and after the tour, the mini-van would be waiting for us at the other end -- no backtracking. Nothing was ever stolen or missing in the secured vans. The many guides we met were always courteous and spoke varying degrees of fluency but always well-informed. One even held my wife's hand as she walked slowly on icy pathways in Huanglong National Park.

Their pricing was reasonable -- better than if I booked myself. We stayed in not only elegant country inns, but also at Pullman, Sofitel, Shangri-la, and Grand Hyatt.

I have nothing but praise for Leo and his team. He is easily accessible 24/7. That is really necessary in China. His English is flawless, his personality infectious. We met him in Chengdu. Ask for Leo Li.
