Xilamuren Grassland

Distance from Hohhot: 88km; 1.5 hours’ drive

Xilamuren Grassland is the most popular grassland due to its proximity to Hohhot and the number of grassland yurt resorts. Xilamure, which means “Yellow Water” in Mongolia, is also known as ZhaoHe because of an old Lama Temple along the Xilamuren riverside.

Traditional Mongolia culture can be found throughout the grassland. Travelers could enjoy a range of cultural pursuits, such as visit of herdsman house, the Mongolian traditional welcome ceremony, sumptuous Mongolian cuisine, Mongolia wrestling. Gegentala Grassland in Mongolian means “a summer resort” or “the place of grazing summer”. It is the largest and unique Mongolia scenic spot bearing the Mongolia ethnical features of China.

Huitengxile means “cold plateau” in Mongolia, with an altitude of over 1800 meters. It is located in Ulanqab, 135 km away from Hohhot. There are 99 natural lakes dotted among the vast grassland, which shows both the vigorousness and firmness of grassland and brightness and beauty of watery towns.

There are also many wonders to view, from caving in the Huanghua Gully and Heishan Mountain’s 99 grottoes. Some traditional Mongolian activities also can be fun. Try some hare’s milk wine or a camel ride and take in a gorgeous landscape carpeted with wildflowers in the warm months.
