Day 1 Pick Up & Nanjing Cutural Exploration
Today's Highlights: Zhongshan Ling, Xiao Ling, Confucius Temple
This morning, you will be picked up by your tour guide and driver at the railway station or your hotel in Nanjing, then start your Nanjing tour with an enjoyable pace. (If you arrive at Nanjing in noon time or later, the number and order of attractions can be adjusted based on your schedule and interests.)
Nanjing is called as the “City of Emperors” while Purple Mountain (Zijinshan) is the final resting place of emperors and great leaders—including Zhu Yuanzhang, the founder of the Ming Dynasty, and Sun Yat-sen, known as the "Father of the Republic of China." You'll uncover the legacy of these historical giants in one fascinating visit. Firstly, go to Zhongshan Ling (Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum), located at the foot of Purple Mountain. This is the mausoleum of Sun Yat-sen, who led the revolution that ended over 2,000 years of China's feudal monarchy. Often compared to the Lincoln Memorial in the U.S., the site features 392 steps leading to the tomb, flanked by impressive buildings and elegant landscapes. Pay your respects to this national hero and enjoy a mesmerizing panoramic view of Nanjing and its surroundings. Then explore Xiaoling of Ming Dynasty, located nearby. This grand tomb belongs to Zhu Yuanzhang, who unified China and established the powerful Ming Dynasty. Spanning over 1.7 million square meters, it is more a vast complex of palaces, temples, and greenery than a typical tomb. It took 25 years and over 100,000 workers to complete. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Xiaoling is celebrated for its majestic architecture and imperial mausoleum culture. All subsequent Ming and Qing mausoleums were modeled after its design. You'll also walk at a leisurely pace along the Sacred Way, guarded by ancient stone sculptures of animals and warriors, adding a peaceful and solemn touch to your visit.
After the impressive mausoleums visiting, drive heading to the Confucius Temple (Fuzimiao). Built in Song Dynasty about 1000 years ago, the temple is one of the most important temples to worship the siege Confucius. For foreign visitors, it is a unique place where you can figure out how Chinese society, education system, government system was built Confucius’ thoughts, and how Confucianism have impacted relationship between people and basic guidance on how your Chinese think about our world. It is truly an inspiration.
Later, you will be taken to Qinhuai River area to explore the local lifestyle. The river runs through the city of Nanjing, remembering the history of Nanjing in many history books and poems. Today, it is a great place to wander around. Red lanterns, shops, eateries, souvenirs sellers cluster all round in the pedestrian street. At night the whole area is lit up with colorful lights thus creating a very impressive night scenario. It is very popular to take a colorfully decorated boat to ride on this ancient river, which will be a memorable experience (optional).
Lastly, you will be escorted to your hotel. The rest time is free for you to relax and take rest. You can also be dropped off at Qinhuai River area if you want to stay more time at the area for dinner and relaxing.

Day 2 Nanjing Half-day Tour & Departure (B, L)
Today's Highlights: Nanjing Museum, Ancient City Wall
After breakfast, go for an educational visit to Nanjing Museum which is one of the Four Greatest Museums in China with about 400,000 items in its permanent collection, ranging from the Paleolithic Age to the contemporary era, all of which are rare treasures and masterpieces of the past dynasties. Its two greatest “specialties” are enormous collections of imperial porcelain and real paintings of Ming and Qing dynasties, which are among the largest in the world.
Next, go to enjoy a leisure stroll on the Ancient City Wall (Xuanwumen Section) which is the longest, largest, and best-preserved ancient city wall in the world. It was built about 650 years ago, with about 25 km remaining well. An interesting fact is many of the bricks in the wall have signatures of the artisans who originally made the brick, which is believed to be helpful to guarantee the quality of the walls. Walking on the top of the wall gives to you the nice highlight of ancient time and modern Nanjing.
After the Great Wall joy, your guide and driver will take you to catch your flight/train to the next destination or home. Tour ends.

We really enjoyed the cruise and found it very relaxing and interesting. The rooms were really clean and comfortable, and the food was surprisingly good and varied. Some of the earlier excursions we found a little boring (we had already seen a lot of temples at that point) but the top of the Three Gorges and the trip up the smaller gorge was great!

4. Suggestion: Inform us in advance if a particular event or attraction is out of season—for example, our visit to Meijiawu Tea Village. It seems the tea-picking season was in March or April, so there was no tea leaf picking during our visit. Had China Discovery let us know ahead of time, we would have adjusted our expectations and avoided disappointment. That said, we still enjoyed the beautiful scenery and overall experience.
