Jilin Weather & Seasons - Best Time to Visit Jilin 2024
Jilin city (125° 40′～ 127° 56′E and 42° 31′～ 44° 40′ N) is located in the middle of Jilin Province, in the northeast hinterland of Changbai Mountains, on the Bank of Songhua River in the transition zone from Changbai Mountain to Songnen Plain.The climate of Jilin city belongs to the typical sub-humid monsoon climate in the middle temperate zone, with four distinct seasons. It is dry and rainless in spring, warm and rainy in summer, cool and sunny in autumn, and long and cold in winter. The annual average temperature of the whole region is 3 ℃ ~ 5 ℃. Affected by the terrain, the temperature gradually decreases from west and northwest. The average temperature in January is the lowest among the year, generally, from -18 ℃ to -20 ℃, the average temperature in July is the highest, generally from 21 ℃ to 23 ℃, and the extreme maximum temperature is 36.6 ℃. The frost-free period is about 120 days. The annual rainfall is about 700 mm. The sunshine hours in the whole region range from 2400 to 2600 hours.
Best Time to Visit Jilin

Jilin Seasons to Go
- It is the coldest but the best season to enjoy the beautiful rime scene of Jilin and have ski fun in Jilin. It turns into a snow-covered city with an average temperature of -11℃, and the night temperature is about -11℃.
- What to Wear
- It is very cold in Jilin in winter but the best time to see rime and have fun in the ski resort. The temperature keeps dropping down from the mid-November, and you are recommended to be armed with your best warm-keeping winter clothes such as overcoats, sweaters, winter coat, woolen jacket, gloves, down jacket and scarfs, and a pair of antiskid snow boots, and bring some warm paste and a vacuum cup to fill it with hot water if it is necessary. Wrap your face with a hat and scarf, and don't expose your skin outside. If you would like to go skiing, ski suites and protectors are needed. You can either bring them or rent the equipment from the ski resort.

- Winter is the best time to visit Jilin. Thought the winter here is long and extremely cold. The Songhua Lake Scenic Area becomes a wonderland for skiers and skaters. However, the most attractive site in Jilin in winter is the Wusong Island with many crystal rimes hanging on the tree, forming a white fairyland.

- Spring in Jilin is very cold and windy with an average temperature of -4℃ in the daytime and -19℃ at night.
- What to Wear
- The temperature is still the winter mode until April. When it enters May, it turns a lot warmer, and a long-sleeved shirt with a light coat will usually be sufficient in the normal days during the daytime. It is still very cold at night, and winter clothes like a down jacket, gloves, hat, scarf are necessary.
