Changbaishan Weather & Seasons - Best Time to Visit Changbaishan
Changbai Mountain is located between 38° 46′ ~ 47° 30′ N and 121° 08′ ~ 134 ° E. It is about 1300 kilometers long and 400 kilometers wide from east to west. The main peak of Changbai Mountain belongs to the temperate continental mountain climate affected by the monsoon. In addition to the characteristics of the general mountain climate, there are obvious vertical climate changes. The general characteristics are: the winter here is long, cold, and snowy; the summer is short, warm, and cool; the spring is windy and dry; the autumn is foggy and cool. The annual average temperature is between - 7 ℃ and 3 ℃, the average temperature in July is no more than 10 ℃, and the coldest month is January with the monthly average temperature about - 20 ℃, and the lowest temperature has been - 44 ℃. The annual sunshine hours are less than 2300 hours. The frost-free period is about 100 days, and the peak is only about 60 days. The depth of snow is generally 50 cm to 70 cm. The annual precipitation is 700-1400mm, and the precipitation from June to September accounts for 60-70% of the annual precipitation. It is always cloudy. Especially in summer, the weather is unpredictable and changeable. The annual number of strong wind days is 269 days, and the annual average wind speed is 11.7m/s. There are 165 rime days, 265 fog days on the top of the mountain.
Best Time to Visit Changbaishan
You can travel to Changbaishan in any season you like. The best time to travel to Changbai Mountain is July, August, and September. From June to September every year, it is the most comfortable season in Changbai Mountain to see green vegetation and colorful flowers. After September, Changbai Mountain enters autumn with beautiful fall foliage for photography and sightseeing. It should be noted that due to the foggy autumn when you come to Changbai Mountain, you should pay special attention to the weather forecast so as you will not miss the Tianchi Lake scenery. Winter is the best season for skiing. The real snow season in Changbai Mountain starts around November every year and ends in April next year. At this time, the top of the mountain is cold, and the average low temperature is between - 35 ℃ and - 40 ℃.

Changbaishan Seasons to Go
- Spring in Mount Changbai is very cold and windy with an average temperature of -2℃ in the daytime and 7℃ at night. Until early May, the Tianchi Lake of Changbai Mountain was still frozen.
- What to Wear
- You need in full winter clothes if you come before April. When it enters May, a long-sleeved shirt with a light coat will usually be sufficient in the normal days if you only stay in the foot area. The temperature drops a lot at night and in the mountain area, and winter clothes like a down jacket, gloves, hat, scarf are still very necessary when you hike to uphill areas.

- What to Wear
- It is recommended to wear windbreakers, jackets, sweaters, trousers, long sleeve, sweaters, for the daytime and overcoats, sweaters, woolen jacket, gloves, down jacket and scarfs if feel cold at night. As you are hiking upward to the top, you need to wrap yourself with more warm-keep clothes or rent a winter coat on the mountain. While you hiking, tighten the cuffs, necklines, and trousers to prevent insects and wear high waist mountaineering shoes (waterproof and breathable), rain gear, sunscreen, and skincare products, and bring extra layers always.

- Summer is the best time to hike on Mount Changbai. Since the average temperature during July and August is the hottest period in China, while it is just around 20 degree centigrade in Changbaishan, which wakes up the wildflowers in the west slope around alpine garden as well as lush forests in the valley. Waterfalls, ravines, streams here and there can be seen along your way uphill and in summer you can travel all 3 slopes of Changbaishan, namely the popular west slope, authentic north slope, and primitive south slope.

- It is a comfortable season to travel to Changbaishan in early autumn. The average temperature in Mount Changbai is 8℃ in the daytime and -1℃ at night during autumn.
- What to Wear
- The temperature is comfortable in September and early October, but it is still very cold in the high mountain area especially at night. It is recommended to wear windbreakers, jackets, sweaters, trousers, long sleeves, sweaters, for the early autumn; winter clothes such as overcoats, sweaters, woolen jackets, gloves, down jacket and scarfs are necessary if you come after October.

- Autumn is the best time to take nice pictures on Mount Tianchi by early October. The green vegetation turns yellowish and reddish forming colorful layers on the mountain. However, from October, the temperature drops rapidly and you can feel the bitter winter vibes already, and you can have some hot spring boiled eggs and corns to fuel yourself a little bit or have a hot spring trip in the late autumn.

- It is the coldest but best season to enjoy the snowscape and have ski fun in Changbaishan with fewer tourists. It is all snow-covered on the mountain area with an average temperature of -10℃ during the daytime, and the night temperature is even colder.
- What to Wear
- It is very cold in Mount Changbai, especially at night and high altitude area.The temperature keeps dropping down from the mid-November, and you are recommended to be armed with your best warm-keeping winter gears such as overcoats, sweaters, winter coat, woolen jacket, gloves, down jacket and scarfs, and a pair of antiskid snow boots, and bring some warm paste and a vacuum cup to fill it with hot water if it is necessary. In case of wind and snow, wrap your face with a hat and scarf, and don't expose your skin outside. If you would like to go skiing, ski suites and protectors are needed. You can either bring them or rent the equipment from the resort.
