2 Days Wuxi Highlights Tour

Explore the Soul of Jiangsu: Artistry, Tranquility & Timeless Heritage

Did you know there's a shining pearl of a city nestled just about 130 km from Shanghai and 40 km from Suzhou - yet still wonderfully under the radar? That city is Wuxi, a place where ancient culture and scenic beauty quietly flourish alongside modern development.

Though often overshadowed by its famous neighbors, Wuxi holds over 3,000 years of history dating back to the late Shang Dynasty (1600–1046 BC), offering an authentic glimpse into China's heritage through its classical gardens, ancestral halls, and peaceful temples. Set on the shores of Taihu Lake, one of China's largest freshwater lakes, Wuxi enchants with tranquil natural landscapes and graceful cultural sites. Whether you're admiring blooming cherry trees on a lake cruise, strolling through a scholar's garden, or exploring centuries-old neighborhoods, Wuxi presents a refined and relaxing retreat from the urban rush.

This 2-day private tour is designed to reveal the best of Wuxi with comfort and depth. With private guides, personalized transfers, and well-paced sightseeing, you'll enjoy a seamless and enriching journey through this underrated gem of eastern China.

Day 1 Wuxi Arrival & Wuxi (L)

Today's highlights: Lingshan Grand Buddha, Yuantouzhu

In the morning, your private tour guide and driver will meet you at the airport or the railway station and take you on today's sightseeing journey in a comfortable, air-conditioned private vehicle.

Your first stop is the Lingshan Grand Buddha, located on the northern bank of Taihu Lake. Standing at an impressive 88 meters tall, this towering bronze statue is even taller than Sichuan's Leshan Giant Buddha and nearly twice the height of Rio's Christ the Redeemer. It's recognized as the tallest bronze Buddha in the world. Don't forget to touch the Buddha's giant hand in Buddha Hand Square, which is believed to bring good fortune and longevity.

Within the scenic area, you'll also visit the Vatican Palace Sacred Site, known for its exquisite carvings and Buddhist artworks. Witness two famous rituals here - Nine Dragons Bathing Shakyamuni and Ode to Auspice - for a deeper understanding of Buddhist culture. You'll also explore the Tibetan-style Five Mudra Mandala and enjoy the joyful depiction of 100 children playing with Maitreya Buddha.

After this spiritual experience, enjoy a change of pace at Yuantouzhu (Turtle Head Island), often hailed as the most scenic spot on Taihu Lake. Wander along tranquil paths and admire the stunning landscape of lakes, hills, and islands. In spring, the area comes alive with blooming cherry blossoms, peach flowers, and orchids, while lotus flowers bloom from June to September. Yuantouzhu is regarded as China's top cherry blossom viewing spot, with the International Cherry Blossom Festival held annually from March to April. To see the scenery from a new perspective, enjoy a 20-minute roundtrip cruise across Taihu Lake between Yuantouzhu and Fairy Island. If you're feeling energetic, hike up Luding Hill for a panoramic view of the lake and Turtle Head Island.

After sightseeing, drive to Wuxi downtown and check in to your hotel.

Tips for Today:

Arrival Suggestions: Wuxi is well connected by high-speed trains to major cities such as Shanghai (less than 1 hour), Suzhou (10–15 minutes), and Nanjing (around 1 hour). For a convenient journey, consider arriving from Shanghai, Suzhou, or other nearby cities.

Cherry Blossom Viewing: The best time to enjoy cherry blossoms at Yuantouzhu is from early March to early April. Night visits are typically available in late March, when the blossoms are beautifully illuminated by colorful lights. If you’d like to experience the night view, please inform your travel consultant in advance.

Day 2 Wuxi & Wuxi Departure (B)

Today's highlights: Jichang Garden, Huishan Old Town

After breakfast, your guide and driver will pick you up from the lobby of your hotel. Today, you’ll explore Jichang Garden, a renowned classical Chinese garden in Wuxi originally built during the Ming Dynasty by Qin Jin. Its elegant design even inspired the Xiequ Garden in Beijing's Summer Palace and the Double-Crane House in the Yuanmingyuan Imperial Garden. Stroll through this exquisite garden and admire its clever layout, natural hills, serene waters, ancient trees, refined halls, and intricate tile carvings.

Next, visit Huishan Old Town, often called an open-air museum, and the only well-preserved old town in Wuxi. The area is home to 118 ancestral halls and historic sites dating from the Tang Dynasty to the Republic of China, associated with over 180 notable figures. Wander around Huishan Temple, explore nearby ancestral halls, and stroll along Heng Street and Zhi Street for a deeper cultural experience. If your visit coincides with the Azalea Festival (April to May), you’ll be treated to vibrant blossoms that enhance the charm of the ancient town.

After the tour, your guide and driver will transfer you to the airport or railway station for your departure to the next destination.

Hi Wonder,

All is good! Only my father get tired very easily, so today we skip a little bit of the programma and got back to the hotel a little bit earlier. But overall everything is good!

The tour was also good, we saw everything we wanted to see… and everything went by smoothly. Only the distance is the problem… everything is so far away.

1 week is a good choice for us, because at the end of the trip, my father and aunt had enough of the travelling. And I even thought to go to Kashgar… maybe we do it next time only Xinjiang. My father couldn’t go to some places in Zhangye, so he wait at the entrance with the tour guide while my aunt and me were wandering around.

Hi Tammy,

Now safely back in London after a wonderful time in China.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Victoria Jenna cruise and although we did not upgrade our cabin, as it was perfectly fine, we did upgrade the dining option as it meant we could have our own table for two in the upper dining room (rather than sharing a large table for 10 people in the large dining room) plus the food choice was larger and wine was included with lunch and dinner. Highly recommend that option.

Xi’an was terrific and we really enjoyed everything you organized and our guide Jenny was great and so knowledgeable.

Over the long weekend in between we also travelled with our daughter to Hangzhou and then on to Suzhou both very interesting and pretty.

As you know we upgraded the train to Xi’an to first class which I think was well worth doing as the train back from Yichang was comfortable but very busy and noisy for Western people, and also many people were making their own pot noodles etc so my recommendation would be to travel first class on trains (rather than flying) because you see so much of the country and the stations are well organized and trains very comfortable with lots of space and no hanging around it airports.

Thank you for all your help Tammy, excellent work and I will certainly contact you again when we return (we have a two year visa) so will return so we can visit Guilin and that area.

Take care and thanks again.
