Best time to enjoy this tour: During the months of mid-May to early-October, especially from June to September, you will meet with the lushest scenery of the grassland. Autumn from September to November is also great for more colorful scenery!
Day 1 Hailar Arrival
Pick up from airport / railway station & hotel check-in
Welcome to Hulunbuir! Upon your arrival, your guide and driver will wait you at the arrival hall of the airport and then escort you to your hotel in Hailar District (9 kilometers and 20 minutes around by car), the downtown area of Hulunbuir City, by a comfortable licensed private vehicle (non-smoking). Your guide will help you check in. The rest of today is on your own to explore Hailar.
Arrival ideas: Hailar Dongshan International Airport, or called Hulunbuir Dongshan International Airport, has flights from Beijing (2.5 hrs), Hohhot (2.5 hrs), Harbin (1.5 hrs), etc. Beijing is the best gateway.

Day 2 Hailar - Hulunbuir Grassland - Ergun (B, L)
Today’s highlights: Hulunbuir Grassland, Erguna Wetland, Tieshan Ice Cream, Optional Activities on Grassland
Good morning! After breakfast, your guide and driver will meet you at the hotel and then escort you to the most beautiful part of Hulunbuir Grassland, where dragon-like Morigele River winds through the wide-open prairie and rolling ridges are standing shoulder to shoulder in a distance. The car ride takes about 1 hour.
Landscape has already opened on the way. The whole Hailar District is built on the grassland, and thus you will get broad views of boundless steppe as soon as you leave Hailar. Stretching away in the distance: no trace of human activities except for the nomads and their Mongolian yurts and herds. Upon arriving at Morigele River, you can free yourself to enjoy roaming around, or try some optional activities on the grassland like flying a kite, galloping on horseback, archery, etc. based on your interest (optional activities with extra payment). Lunch is served in the grassland area with unique Mongolian-style dishes like Shouparou, roasted mutton, etc.
After your satisfying grassland tour, you will travel north to visit Erguna Wetland Scenic Area (Ergun Wetland) - the No.1 Wetland in Asia. Walk for about 10 minutes (or ride an optional battery car for about 3 minutes and CNY 15/pp) from the entrance to the wooden trails, and then follow the trails to go up for a panorama view of the wetland. Nature has the best color palette. Astonishing views with verdant green willows, golden bushes and zigzagging Genhe River open in front of you. The mist hanging in the air adds more mysterious colors to the scenery.
After that, drive back to Erguna City and have a fresh try of the Russian flavored ice cream at famous Tieshan Ice Cream shop.
After today's discovery, have a good sleep in Erguna City.
Note: 1). Best time for kite flying in Hulunbuir is usually May to June and autumn months. Wear gloves and sunblock to protect your skin. 2). Children under 6 years old are not allowed to join the optional horse riding experience, and elder children can join with the company of professional hostlers.
Day 3 Erguna - Aoluguya - Genhe (B, L)
Today’s highlights: Local Russian Family Visit Experience, Aoluguya Reindeer Village
Good morning! After breakfast, you will visit a local Russian family. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed to their house with joyful accordion performances and delicious Big Lieba (Russian bread). Then, dress you up with their traditional Russian ethnic costumes to learn the Russian culture and beliefs from them. Record such a special moment in the photos. You will also make Russian-style painted eggs there together with your children. Draw a lovely egg with your imagination. Enjoy your short play on the swing to turn your sweet family time back again. This is a gift for you, and you can take it with you when you leave. (Tip: You can try the Russian costumes for free, but their clothes are in limited. You may sometimes need to wait for a while to have a try. )
After that, your guide and driver will escort you (1.5 hours around by car) to Aoluguya Reindeer Village, the last reindeer village in China and the home of Santa Claus in China. Here, you will first admire their unique Cuoluozi houses, a kind of cottage made up of a stick and barks of white birch or white stones, and then date with groups of adorable reindeer, feed them, touch them and take photos with them up closely. Later, visit the Aoluguya Museum to know the history and legend of this mysterious branch of Ewenki Ethnic Minority.
After today’s discovery, you will accommodate in the nearby Genhe City. Have a good sleep.
Day 4 Genhe - Mordaoga Forest Park - Shiwei (B, L)
Today’s highlights: Mordaoga Forest Park, Shiwei Russian Town, Russian-style Mukeden Accommodation
Good morning! After breakfast, your guide and driver will escort you to explore Mordaoga National Forest Park in the hinterland of the northern forest of Great Khingan. Mordaoga is the first national forest park of Great Khingan and the largest forest park in China. The boundless stretch of Forest Ocean, undulating mountains, sinuous rivers and mysterious floating mist make Mordaoga a paradise for sightseeing and photography. Take the forest train (included in the package) to immerse into the peace and beauty there. And enjoy your free hours to wander around the forest. Hike up to the observation desk named Nine Mountain Ranges in One Glimpse (One Eye Nine Ridge) to get a broad view of the dense forest and belt-like rivers. (The train has 5 stops in total, you can get off the train at each of the stops to go sightseeing and then hop on the train to continue! The whole train trip needs from 1.5 hours.)
Then, transfer further north to Shiwei Russian Town, which faces the small towns in Russia across the Ergun River. Enjoy your leisure moments in the small town. You can stroll around the rows of well-kept Russian-style buildings and streets or taste the real Russian towns’ flavor across the river. Thereafter, hike up to the “Fairy Slope” to get stunning sunset views.
After night falls, you will accommodate in the unique Russian-style wooden Mukeden houses.
Day 5 Shiwei - Haur River - Heishantou (B, L)
Today’s highlights: Haur River, Mongolian Herdsman's Family Visit, Heishantou, Mongolian Yurts Accommodation
Good morning! Your forest and grassland tour continues! After breakfast, your guide and driver will escort you to Haur River Scenic Area. The secluded Haur River, which means "spring-like river" in Mongolian language, zigzags the Haur Wetland, forming an impressive picture. You will stand on the viewing platform to overlook the meandering river and its lush surroundings. After that, wander around the forest to relax yourself and to seek traces of reindeers and take a glimpse the Ewenki traditions and culture. Enjoy your blissful moments with dappled shadows of the sun kissing your face every now and then.
Then, drive for about 3 hours to Heishantou and enjoy the featured local Mongolian family visit and see their pasture. You can choose the optional activities such as trying their symbolic Mongolian robes and hats to take some photos of a different yourselves, feeding the adorable lamb with milk, learning to make milk tea, taking the little train made of oil drums, swinging on the grassland, etc. with your family members. (Note: Optional activities need extra payment; the time and types of activity are various at different pastures, and your guide and arrange it flexibly based on your interests and needs)
Also, you can directly enjoy a moderate hiking to the "Sundown Slope" to enjoy the intoxicating sunset scenery over the vast wetland. When the red glow of the sunset fades away, you will go down the slope and then be escorted to the nearby Mongolian tribe for accommodation. Tonight, you will enjoy happy Bonfire Party with Mongolian girls and boys (free, but it may be cancelled in case of bad weather), and then stay overnight in the Mongolian yurts (better ones with private bathroom, air conditioner, double bed, etc.) that you have seen many times. Have a nice sleep!
Note: Mongolian yurts of higher levels are usually quite popular and are easily sold out, especially during peak season, so please book that at least one month in advance. Also, hotel prices rise in peak season, especially in July and August.
Day 6 Heishantou - Manzhouli (B, L)
Today’s highlights: China-Russian Border Road, Hulun Lake, Manzhouli Matryoshka Square
Wake up in the peaceful morning of the grassland. After breakfast, you will first enjoy an exciting driving trip along the Sino-Russian border road. On your left is the vast Hulunbuir Grassland, and on your right is the gurgling Ergun River and Russia.
After about 3 hours' drive, you will arrive at Hulun Lake which is one of the largest fresh water lakes in China with a length of 93 kilometers and a maximum width of 41 kilometers. It is praised as "the Pearl of the Grassland" and "the Kidney of the Grassland", playing an important role in the ecological environment protection and maintaining the biodiversity of Hulunbuir Grassland. Meanwhile, Hulun Lake is also the main birthplace of many nomadic ethnic groups in the north.
After the lake tour, keep driving to Manzhouli, where China meets Russia and Mongolia. Head to Manzhouli Matryoshka Plaza to savor the mixed flavor of three countries. Over 200 lovely Matryoshka dolls, large or small, spread the square, forming the largest scale of the irregular architectural complex in the world. The evening is for you to freely enjoy the cheerful night view of this prosperous border city. Tonight, you will accommodate in the luxury hotel in Manzhouli.
Day 7 Manzhouli - Hailar & Hailar Departure (B, L)
Today’s highlights: Hulunbuir National Museum
Good morning. After breakfast, your guide and driver will escort you to Hailar with driving about 2.5 hours.
You will visit Hulunbuir National Museum in Hailar to trace the nomadic history in northern China. You can get up close to the ancient instruments, costumes and other ten thousand items used by ancient Mongols to learn the source, developing history, life and prosperity of northern China's nomadic peoples. The excellent collections and displays will also certainly help you have a better understating about the places you have visited during the past 4 days.
After the museum tour, your guide and driver will escort you to the Hulunbuir Dongshan International Airport to catch your flight to next destination or home. Tour ends!
Departure ideas: You are suggested to book a flight departing after 17:00 pm. The Hulunbuir Dongshan International Airport has flights to Beijing (2.5 hrs), Hohhot (2.5 hrs), Harbin (1.5 hrs), etc.
