How to Get from Xian to Shaolin Temple 2024

Xian is city where you can witness the great history of China through the lots of amazing ancient sites, while you can experience the alive Chinese culture at Shaolin Temple by watching the famous Shaolin Kungfu Show. It is abou 425km away from Xian in the east. Shaolin Temple is at Mt. Song Scenic Area, Dengfeng City, Henan Province, between Zhengzhou and Luoyang. There is Not any direct train or bus to Shaolin Temple from Xian. However, numerous bullet trains are running between Xian and Zhengzhou, the provincial capital city of Henan Province, and some stop at Luoyang, a famous scenic city which is only about 55km to Shaolin Temple.

You can choose to either transfer at Zhengzhou or Luoyang to reach Shaolin Temple.

Xian to Shaolin Temple Via Luoyang

Xian to Luoyang

Located between Xian and Shaolin Temple, Luoyang is only about 55km away from the temple (about 1.5h by car). Besides, it is a city where the famous Longmen Grottoes are located. If you have enough time, you are recommended to transfer at Luoyang, travelling both Longmen Grottoes and Shaolin Temple.

There are over 100 trains departing from Xian to Luoyang, including about 38 normal trains running between 6:05am to 1:50am every day from Xian Railway Station to Luoyang Railway and over 60 bullet trains from Xian North Railway Station to Luoyang Longmen Railway Station running between 7:03am to 20:58pm. The duration for the normal train is about 4.5h to 5.5h; while the duration for most of the high speed bullet trains is only about 1.5h.

After getting off the train, you may need to reach Luoyang Bus Station to take the direct bus to Shaolin Temple. Since it is right close to Luoyang Railway Station, you are recommended to take a train arriving at Luoyang Railway Station from Xian, otherwise you may need a transfer from Luoyang Longmen Railway Station to Luoyang Railway Station (about 14km, about 1.5h by Bus No. 77; No. D1; NO. 1; about 30min by car).

There are about 9 buses departing from Luoyang Bus Station to Shaolin Temple every day. The Duration is about 1.5h. The earliest bus leaves at 5:30am and last one is at 12:30 at noon. You can purchase the bus ticket inside the bus station or book it online. Since there may be lots of people especially during the peak season, please plan your trip in advance.
