How to Get from Beijing to Shaolin Temple 2024

Beijing is usually the first stop of a trip to China. If you are a Kungfu fan, it is unmissable to go to Shaolin Temple and watch the famous Kungfu Show. It is abou 800km away from Beijing in the central China. Shaolin Temple is at Mt. Song Scenic Area, Dengfeng City, Henan Province, between Zhengzhou and Luoyang. There is Not any direct flight, train, bus to Shaolin Temple from Beijing. However, numerous bullet trains are running between Beijing and Zhengzhou, the provincial capital city of Henan Province, and some stop at Luoyang, a famous scenic city which is only about 55km to Shaolin Temple.

You can choose to either transfer at Zhengzhou or Luoyang to reach Shaolin Temple.

Luoyang is known for the Longmen grottoes which is only about 55km away from the Shaolin temple (about 2h by car). If you have enough time, you are recommended to transfer at Luoyang, traveling both Longmen Grottoes and Shaolin Temple.

Besides few flights to Luoyang Beijiao Airport (LYA), there are about 18 trains departing from Beijing to Luoyang, including about 12 high-speed trains running between 7am to 5:30pm every day from Beijing West Railway Station to Luoyang Longmen Railway and few normal trains to Luoyang Railway Station. The duration for the normal train is about 7h to 10.5h; while the duration for most of the high speed bullet trains is only about 4h.

After getting off the train, you need to reach Luoyang Bus Station (near Luoyang Railway Station) to take the direct bus to Shaolin Temple. If you get to Luoyang at Luoyang Longmen Railway Station. You may need to transfer from Luoyang Longmen Railway Station to Luoyang Long Distance Bus Station (Chinese: 洛阳长途汽车站，near Luoyang Railway Station, about 14km from Luoyang Longmen Railway Station, about 1.5h by Bus No. 77; No. D1; NO. 1; about 30min by car).

There are about 9 buses departing from Luoyang Bus Station to Shaolin Temple every day. The Duration is about 1.5h. The earliest bus leaves at 5:30am and last one is at 12:30 at noon. You can purchase the bus ticket inside the bus station or book it online.
