Chengdu is the home to giant panda as well as gateway city to many World Natural and Cultural Heritages Sites, like Leshan Giant Bhutan, Mount Emei, Jiuzhai Valley and Mount Qingcheng. There are 5 high speed trains from Shanghai to Chengdu – 1 G-train and 4 D-trains. All the trains run from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station and Shanghai Railway Station in the early morning (06:08 ~ 08:30) and arrive in Chengdu East Railway Station or Chengdu Railway Station at night (18:25 ~ 22:03). The fastest train is G-1974 which can takes you from Shanghai to Hangzhou in 11 hours and 8 minutes. Besides, there are 4 normal K-trains running from Shanghai Railway Station and Shanghai South Railway Station to Chengdu Railway Station. The train journey of the K-trains takes at least 28 hours and they are not recommended.

Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station is a high speed railway station in Shanghai and it operates high speed trains to major cities in China. Shanghai Railway Station (上海站)
Location: No. 303, Moling Road, Jing'an District (上海市静安区秣陵路303号)
The high speed train D-952 runs from Shanghai Railway Station which is another major railway station operating both high speed trains and normal trains. Located in the downtown of Shanghai, it enjoys convenient transportation network. It can be reached by metro Line 1, Line 3 and Line 4 as well as other public transportation means.
Chengdu East Railway Station (Chengdudong Railway Station, 成都东)
Location: Qingyijiang Road, Chenghua District, Chengdu (成都市成华区青衣江路)
Chengdu East Railway Station is the main high speed railway station in Chengdu. It is about 95m (about 20 minutes' driving) to the downtown and 23km (about 40 minutes' driving) to Chengdu Shuangliu Airport. It can be reached by metro Line 2 and metro Line 7. Chengdu Railway Station (成都站)
Location: No.1 Zhandong Road, Jinniu District, Northern Chengdu (成都市金牛区站东路1号)
Chengdu Railway Station has long been the most frequently-used railway station before Chengdu East Railway Station is operated. Because it is located in northern Chengdu, local Chengdu people usually call it Chengdu North Railway Station. There you can take metro Line 7 and airport shuttle bus conveniently.
Types of SeatsThere are Second Class Seats, First Class Seats and Business Class Seats on most high speed G-trains. The second class is the standard type at a budget price. The First Class Seats feature in much quieter and more comfortable environment. The Business Class Seats offer a luxury experience onboard. Book, Collect, Alter and Cancel a Ticket
The train ticket can be booked online, with a ticket agency, at the ticket offices in railway stations etc. Remember to book your ticket as soon as possible, especially in the peak seasons. Reading tickets carefully to make sure that you get to the correct railway station and board the correct train. 1) Prepare your documents well (passport, visa); 2) Get to the right trains station in advance 3) collect train tickets; 4) Read your train ticket; 5) Pass the Identity Check; 6) Security check & luggage check; 7) Find right waiting room; 8) Cross the ticket checking gate; 9) Get to the right platform; 10) Get on your train. Generally, the luggage won't be weighed and measured specifically, so you can take as much as you can hand it independently and place it in the train station.
