Nanjing, the capital city of Jiangsu Province, operates 657 daily high speed trains to different cities in China, like Shanghai, Beijing, Xian, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Kunming, Hangzhou, etc. There are 216 high speed trains (183 G-trains and 33 D-trains) departing from Nanjing to Shanghai every day. Some trains will stop in the railway stations en route but some won’t. All Nanjing Shanghai High Speed Trains depart from Nanjing during 03:28 ~ 22:33 arrives in Shanghai during 06:26 ~ 23:26. Some Fuxing Trains between Beijing and Shanghai also take a stop in Nanjing South Railway Station, which means that you are able to take high speed trains from Nanjing to Shanghai, including G1, G3, G7, G11… These Fuxing Trains from Shanghai to Nanjing only takes about 1 hour. It is also available to choose some normal trains (Z-trains, T-trains, K-trains) which cost you more time but lower price.

In fact, Nanjing Shanghai High Speed Railway is one part of Beijing Shanghai High Speed Railway. The distance of the railway between Nanjing and Shanghai is about 299km (185 miles). It passes some cities and towns in Jiangsu, like Suzhou, Wuxi, Cangzhou, Zhenjiang, etc. If you want to spare to several days to explore Jiangsu longer, Suzhou is top recommended. Nanjing South Railway Station (Nanjingnan Railway Station, 南京南站)

Nanjing South Railway Station is Nanjing’s major railway station serving the Beijing Shanghai Railway, Shanghai Nanjing Railway, Nanjing Hangzhou High Speed Railway and Shanghai-Wuhan-Chengdu Railway. With convenient transportation, Nanjing South Railway Station can be reached by subway (metro Line S1, Line S3, Line 1 and Line 3), airport shuttle bus, long distance coach and public bus.
Nanjing Railway Station (南京站)
Location: No. 111 Longpan Road, Xuanwu Lake, Nanjing (江苏省南京市玄武区龙蟠路111号)
Located in the northern part of Nanjing’s urban core, near peaceful Xuanwu Lake and amazing Xiaohong Mountain, Nanjing Railway Station is praised as one of the most beautiful railway stations in China. After the operation of Nanjing South Railway Station, Nanjing Railway Station is no longer the most-frequently used railway station, but it still operates frequent high-speed service to Shanghai. It is well connected with subway, public bus, taxi and long-distance coach as well.
Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station (上海虹桥站)
Location: No. 1500, Mingui Road, Minhang District. (上海市闵行区申贵路1500号)
Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station is the main high speed railway station in Shanghai as well as the main station operating Fuxing Trains. 147 high speed trains (120 G-trains and 27 D-trains) from Nanjing to Shanghai will stop in Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station. Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station is a transportation hub is Shanghai as well. Within 10 minutes’ walking, you can get to the Terminal 2 of Shanghai Hongqiao Airport from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station. The station can be reached by Maglev Train, Metro Line 2, Line 10, taxi and many public buses. You can conveniently transfer to the Bund, Yuyuan Garden and Shanghai Pundong Airport. Shanghai Railway Station (Shanghai Railway Station)
Location: No. 303, Moling Road, Jing'an District (上海市静安区秣陵路303号)
Shanghai Railway Station, also called Shanghai New Railway Station, is the other important station in Shanghai. Located in the downtown area, it provides convenient transportation means most highlighted attractions in Shanghai, like Shanghai Museum, Nanjing Road, the Bund, Yuyuan Garden, etc. Metro Line 2 and metro Line 4 both take a stop in Shanghai Railway Station.
Types of SeatsThere are Second Class Seats, First Class Seats and Business Class Seats on most high speed G-trains. The second class is the standard type at a budget price. The First Class Seats feature in much quieter and more comfortable environment. The Business Class Seats offer a luxury experience onboard. Book, Collect, Alter and Cancel a Ticket
The train ticket can be booked online, with a ticket agency, at the ticket offices in railway stations etc. Remember to book your ticket as soon as possible, especially in the peak seasons. Reading tickets carefully to make sure that you get to the correct railway station and board the correct train. For foreign travelers without Chinese ID card, you have to collect, alter and cancel your train ticket from the ticket offices. Board & Disembark a Train
1) Prepare your documents well (passport, visa); 2) Get to the right trains station in advance 3) collect train tickets; 4) Read your train ticket; 5) Pass the Identity Check; 6) Security check & luggage check; 7) Find right waiting room; 8) Cross the ticket checking gate; 9) Get to the right platform; 10) Get on your train. Each passenger is able to take a high speed train with personal luggage in certain weight and volume without limitation of amount and types. Generally, the luggage won’t be weighed and measured specifically, so you can take as much as you can hand it independently and place it in the train station.
