Duration: about 4 hours 20 minutes ~ 12 hours
High speed train from Shanghai to Beijing is one of the most popular high speed rails for western travelers for its quickness, cleanness and cheaper price than taking flight. Following the Beijing-Shanghai high speed rail, there are nearly 40 high speed G-trains departing from Shanghai to Beijing, running the 1318 km at the average speed above 300 km/h. Most of the G trains running between Shanghai and Beijing will take a stop at Nanjing South Station.
Shanghai to Beijing Fuxing Trains: The new Fuxing trains in the public eyes have been used for some shifts between Beijing and Shanghai. At present, travelers from Shanghai to Beijing could take from the trains G6, G2, G14, G4, G18, G8 and G22 to suit your schedule and experience its higher speed and more advanced technologies and advantages. Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station

Duration: 45 minutes ~ 1 hour 42 minutes
If you want to travel from Shanghai to Paradise City Hangzhou and explore its beautiful West Lake and some cultural sites (like China National Silk Museum, Lingyin Temple, China Tea Museum, etc.), taking a high speed train is the perfect choice. There are over 130 scheduled high speed trains running from Shanghai to Hangzhou daily, most of which are G-trains. Frequently as every ten minutes (even shorter as five minutes) there is one high speed train departing. Taking the fast G-trains, you may get to Hangzhou from Shanghai within 1 hour. The earliest train departs from Shanghai at 1:05 and the last train departs at 21:30. During your train journey, you get an opportunity to feast your eyes on the rural villages in eastern China.
Shanghai Hangzhou High Speed Train

With a short distance of 81km, Shanghai Suzhou High Speed Rail offers a quick transfer between international metropolis Shanghai and Garden City Suzhou. After a 3 or more days’ tour in Shanghai, taking a high speed train to Suzhou allows you to get a wonderful sight of the delicately-designed classical gardens which are listed as UNESCO World Cultural Sites. Totally, there are more than 180 daily high speed trains transferring from Shanghai to Suzhou. From 05:48 ~ 22:55, you can easily catch one train to Suzhou from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station or Shanghai Railway Station in every 10 ~ 20 minutes. Some trains are able to take you to Suzhou within 30 minutes, and the fastest train cost only 23 minutes.
Shanghai Suzhou High Speed Train

Duration: 1 ~ 2.5 hours
Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu Province, is connected with Shanghai through high speed rail. Both Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station and Shanghai Railway Station provide high speed trains to Nanjing Railway Station and Nanjing South Railway Station in Nanjing. There are over 200 high speed trains for your choice. The earliest train departs from Shanghai Railway Station at 05:48 and arrives in Nanjing South Railway Station at 07:57. The last train departs from Shanghai Railway Station at 22:55 and arrives in Nanjing Railway Station at 01:39 of the next day. Usually, the high speed trains take about 1 hour. But some trains will take stops at more mid-way stations and cost longer time. All Shanghai Beijing high speed trains take a stop in Nanjing, so you can catch a Fuxing train from Shanghai to Nanjing as well.

Distance: 1,509km (938 miles)
Duration: about 6 ~ 11 hours
It is a total length of 1509 km from Shanghai to Xian. There are 9 G trains (the first starting at 06:10,and the last starting at 17:06) running between Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station and Xian North Railway Station,and 1 D train (D306) departing from Shanghai Railway Station at 22:55 and arriving at Xian North Railway Station at 09:53 the next day. It will pass the tourist cities like Suzhou, Nanjing and Zhengzhou on the way. Usually the G-trains take about 6~7.5 hour and the D-train takes about 11 hours. Some travelers prefer to take a flight to travel between Shanghai and Xian. If you are interested in a comfortable sightseeing train journey, you are suggested to take a G-train and you can save much time.

Railway Stations: Shanghai Hongqiao / Shanghai (上海虹桥/上海) - Huangshan North (黄山北)

Duration: 2.5 ~ 3.5 hours
It is popular to take a high speed train to Huangshan to admire the beauty of Yellow Mountain and some ancient villages like Hongcun and Xidi. At present, there are more than 10 pairs of high speed trains between Shanghai and Huangshan. All of them start from/pass through/arrive at Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station. A Shanghai Huangshan high speed trip will only need 2.5 ~ 3.5 hours. Huangshan North Railway Station is 11 km away from Huangshan City and 68 km away from the Yellow Mountain, so you can get to the downtown area and Yellow Mountain easily.

Railway Stations: Shanghai Hongqiao / Shanghai (上海虹桥/上海) - Zhengzhou East / Zhengzhou (郑州东/郑州)
Distance: 986km (613 miles)
Duration: 4 ~ 8 hours
There are more than 20 daily high speed trains (20 G-trains and 1 D-train) running from Shanghai to Zhengzhou, with stop at Kaifeng city. Taking a high speed G-train, visitors can reach Zhengzhou from Shanghai for only about 4 ~ 5.5 hours covering the railway of about 986 kilometers long. The earliest G-train starts at around 06:10 from Shanghai and the last one at around 19:18 to Zhengzhou, so you could choose one to suit your tour including Shanghai. The D-train is a night train, departing at 22:55 and arriving at 07:15 of the next day. Since some of the trains arrive at Zhengzhou East Station and some at Zhengzhou Station, you could check it when booking. Moreover, from Shanghai to Kaifeng, there are about 2 trains available during 06:15~16:26, and it needs about 4.5 hours for arriving.

Railway Stations: Shanghai Hongqiao (上海虹桥) - Kunming South (昆明南站)

Duration: 10.5 ~ 12 hours
The high speed rail between Shanghai and Kunming, reaching 2,252km long, is the longest high speed railway in east-west direction. There are 4 daily high speed G-trains running from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station to Kunming South Railway Station, available during 07:22~11:15. The trains are G1371, G1373, G1375, and G1377, and the whole journey needs about 10.5~12 hours, you could choose the one train to best suit your tour including Shanghai and Kunming to enjoy their highlights with speed and comfort. It passes several tourist destinations, like Hangzhou, Changsha, Guiyang, etc. If you want a shorter high speed train journey to Kunming, you can start your tour in Guiyang or Kaili.

Duration: 10.5 hours
There is one round-trip high speeds train between Shanghai and Lanzhou currently. High Speed Train G1970 starts from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station at 06:10 and reaches Lanzhou West Railway Station at 16:41. The whole Shanghai Lanzhou high speed train trip cost about 10.5 hours. From metropolis Shanghai to northwestern China, you can indulge yourselves in the varying landscape. For reverse traveling, the G1972 at around 10:39 would reach Shanghai in about 10.5 hours. Since the trains stop at Suzhou, Nanjing, Kaifeng, Zhengzhou, Huashan, Xian, Tianshui, etc., you could also take the bullet train to visit those hot destinations.
Lanzhou West Railway Station
Railway Stations: Shanghai Hongqiao - Chizhou
Distance: 522km (324 miles)
Duration: 3.5 ~ 4 hours
Jiuhuashan (Mount Jiuhua), one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains in China, is located in Qingyang County, Chizhou City. Since it is about 50km to Chizhou Railway Station (about 1 hour’s driving), some travelers choose to take a high speed train to Chizhou first and then transfer to Mount Jiuhua. Offering 14 daily high speed trains to Chizhou, Shanghai is one of the best gateway cities to Chizhou. The earliest train departs at 05:48 and the last train departs at 18:42. The whole train trip needs about 3.5 ~ 4 hours. These trains also passes through some other tourist cities, including Suzhou, Nanjing, Wuhu, etc., so you can catch a high speed train from these cities to Chizhou as well.

There are also arranged high speed trains running from Shanghai to other popular tourist cities of China. If you are a budget traveler, you could take a bullet train to Yichang (7.5 hours) for a Yangtze River Cruise. And a 14-hour D train will take you from Shanghai to Chengdu - the panda’s hometown. Also high speed from Shanghai to Wuhan (5 hours), Qingdao (6.5 hours), Xiamen (6.5 hours), Tianjin (5 hours), Nanchang (4 hours) and Shenzhen (11.5 hours) are available.
