Guangzhou in Guangdong Province is the first coastal open city and the southern gateway to China. So many people choose to start their China trip from here. Apart from being a transportation hub, Guangzhou is actually a time-honored city with a history of 2200 years. After exploring this southern coastal city, you can fly to another beautiful city along the coastline in northern China, which is Qingdao, famous for beer, seafood, seascape, and architectures in different styles.

Option 1: Guangzhou to Qingdao Flight - Most Recommended
For such a long distance, it is most recommended to travel by plane. There are over 10 direct flights a day from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport to Qingdao Liuting International Airport. No matter you are departing in the morning, afternoon, or at night, there will be a flight available. The flight will only need about 3 hours.

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (IATA：CAN)
Location: Huadu District, Guangzhou (广州市花都区 – 广州白云国际机场), about 34km from the city center (the area near the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Yuexiu Park and The People's Park).
Qingdao Liuting International Airport (IATA: TAO)
Location: Liuting Street, Chengyang District, Qingdao City, Shandong Province (山东省青岛市城阳区流亭街道), about 27 km (1h by car, 1h50min by bus) to Qingdao downtown (May Fourth Square).
Option 2: Guangzhou to Qingdao Trains
As of October 2020, there are 2 trains from Guangzhou to Qingdao. One is G-series high speed train which needs 13 hours and the other is overnight Z-series train that will take about 30 hours. On the train you can see the scenery outside from the south to the north of China. But please be noted that though high speed trains in China have a comfortable and clean environment, sitting for 13 hours is quite demanding. And if you choose the Z train, you will need to spend 2 nights on the train.

How to Plan a Guangzhou Qingdao Tour

You can visit Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, which is the largest, most beautifully decorated traditional ancestral temple in Guangdong Province, feel the Zen Buddhism at the Temple of the Six Banyan Trees, stroll leisurely in the largest city park - Yuexiu Park, see the landmark of Guangzhou - Canton Tower, and discover the Museum of the Mausoleum of the Nanyue King, the second King of Western Han Dynasty 2000 years ago.
To explore the cultural and natural highlights of Qingdao, 2 ~ 3 days are needed. You can pay a visit to Qingdao Beer Museum to savor the typical Qingdao Beer and know its history, take a hike on the scenic Laoshan Mountain, have a full view of Qingdao from Xiaoyushan Park and take a leisure walk along the beach. If you happen to visit Qingdao in August, don't miss the Qingdao International Beer Festival. If you are here in April, the International Kite Festival in Weifang is also worth a go.
