Get from Luoyang to Shaolin Temple by Bus

There are about 10 buses running from Luoyang to Shaolin Temple on a daily basis. You can take bus departing from Luoyang Bus Station (洛阳汽车站) at 08:10, 10:10 and other times every morning and get to Shaolin Temple directly after nearly 2 hours’ ride. Please note that all the buses depart from Luoyang before noon and there are no afternoon buses available.

Meanwhile, there are some buses starting from Luoyang Bus Station to Xinmi (新密, a county-level city in Zhengzhou City which borders Defeng City in the east) and Xuchang (许昌, a county level city in south of Zhengzhou, central Henan). The bus ride is approximately 2.5 hours each. But after arrival, you need around 1 hour to 1.5 hours’ extra transfer from Xinmi and about 2 hours’ driving from Xuchang. Thus, the latter is not recommended for time-consuming and complex transfers.

Transportation: The bus station lies on the left side of Luoyang Railway Station (洛阳站) within several minutes’ walking; about 14 km/30 minutes’ driving from Luoyang Longmen Railway Station (洛阳龙门站) and approximately 10 km from Luoyang city center.

Get from Luoyang to Shaolin Temple by Train - Not Recommended

Since currently there is no train station located near Shaolin Temple, travelers planning to get to Shaolin Temple by train have to transfer in Zhengzhou first. You have two options but both quite time-wasting and exhausting.

Option 1: Luoyang to Gongyi by Train + Gongyi to Shaolin Temple by Car

Estimated Time: about 1.5 hours

One is taking a train from Luoyang Longmen Railway Station to Gongyi South Railway Station(巩义南站) which is the nearest train station (about 35 km) to Shaolin Temple. Between the two stations, there are nearly 10 high speed trains (G trains) arranged from early morning 07:20 to 18:30 in the afternoon. The train travel just costs 14 minutes. Upon arrival, you need to take a taxi or charter a bus to Shaolin Temple, for around 1 hours’ ride.

Option 2: Luoyang to Zhengzhou by Train + Zhengzhou to Shaolin Temple by Bus

Estimated Time: about 2.5 ~ 3 hours

Another choice is getting to Zhengzhou from Luoyang. Because Zhengzhou Railway Station lies close to Zhengzhou Bus Station where sends direct bus to Shaolin Temple, thus, it’s highly advised to get to Zhengzhou Railway Station instead of Zhengzhou East Railway Station.

Normal trains need about 1.5 hours and depart from Luoyang Railway Station to Zhengzhou Railway Station, while high speed trains from Luoyang Longmen Railway Station to Zhengzhou Railway Station takes around 40 minutes. Next, you can take a morning bus from Zhengzhou Long-distance Bus Center Station to get to Shaolin Temple straightway. A bus drives around 1.5 hours for the 90 km-long way.
