Day 1 Changbaishan Arrival
Pick-up in Changbaishan Airport or Dunhua Train Station
Welcome to Changbai Mountain! Upon arrival, you will be met by your guide and driver at Changbaishan Airport or Dunhua Railway Station, and then be escorted to your hotel in Erdao Baihe Town, a peaceful town located at the foot of Changbai Mountain, with many hotels, restaurants and shops. The rest of today is free for you.
Arrival Ideas: 1) You can take a flight to Changbai Mountain directly from Beijing (2h), Shanghai (2.5h), Xian (3h), Tianjin (2h), Changchun (1h), Harbin (1h)... 2) you can also take a high speed train to Changbaishan Railway Station from Beijing (7.5h), Jilin (1.5h), Changchun (2.5h), Harbin (5h)…
Recommended Activity: It is strongly recommended to take a stroll in Erdao Baihe Town and enjoy the beautiful light show.

Day 2 Changbai Mountain North Slope Sightseeing (B)
Today's highlights: Heavenly Lake, Changbai Waterfall, Green Deep Pool, Valley Forest
After breakfast, your guide and driver will pick you up at the hotel. Have a short scenic drive to Changbai Mountain. Also known as Ever White Mountain in Chinese and Changbaek-sanjulgi in Korean, Changbai Mountain range forms the border between the Chinese provinces of Liaoning and Jilin and North Korea. It is one of the top ten famous mountains in China, where the top of the mountain is covered with snow all year round. It is a dormant volcano boasting rare animals, lush forests, clear lakes and bubbling hot springs. The most beautiful one among the lakes is Tian Chi (Heavenly Lake), the deepest alpine lake in China. Take the sightseeing bus and vehicle directly reaching Heavenly Lake, which is 2189 meters above the sea level. This lake has been recognized as the highest volcanic lake in the world by the Guinness Book of Records. With white clouds and blue sky, Heavenly Lake surrounded by 16 peaks is like a jade in the sky. Catch the rare time to enjoy an unbelievable panoramic view of this beautiful lake. After that, get down for further sightseeing and enjoy different winter views. You will head to Changbai Waterfall with its water melted from Heavenly Lake at a height of 68 meters, making the longest volcanic waterfall in the world. Overlook the grand waterfall on the viewing deck where you can see two strands just like two huge flying dragons above the ground. Get back to Small Heavenly Lake hidden in the primitive birch forest where you can enjoy some walking along the river. Move to Green Deep Pool which is reputed as “Little Jiuzhai Valley in Northeast China” with emerald water and small waterfalls falling from the cliff - very elegant. The last spot is Valley Forest. When the volcano erupted, the volcano cone broke and collapsed, forming a valley of 50 meters deep and about 3,000 meters long from north to south. There are tall ancient trees and huge rocks at the bottom of the valley, making it a natural oxygen bar. Take a short walk in the primitive forest. After that, take the sightseeing bus to get down the mountain.
After the tour, you will be taken to the hotel in Erdao Baihe Town and enjoy a hot spring experience to relax your body.
Weather Condition & What to Wear: The weather is freezing in Changbai Mountain and the temperature is around -15 °C to -30 °C from November to February. Take all your warm gears, like cotton trousers, thermal underwear, down jacket, fleece gloves, wool hat, thermal underwear, etc.
Alternative Itinerary: It is also available to go to West Slope instead of North Slope, or spend 1 more day exploring West Slope. Generally, West Slope is less crowded, and you can enjoy many beautiful wild flowers in summer. However, West Slope offers fewer attractions to visit, and you need to take a snowmobile to reach Heavenly Lake when the road is covered by thick snow in cold winter. Just tell your preference to your travel consultant.
Day 3 Changbaishan Winter Activities (B)
Today's highlights: Mojie Scenic Area, Winter Rafting, Winter Fishing
Get up early in the morning, and you will drive to Mojie Scenic Area for a distinct view of the original forest of Changbai Mountain. "Mojie", literally meaning demon world, gets its name because of its mysterious landscape - the never-frozen river shrouded with mist, the dead trunks struggling to stand upright and the beautiful rime hanging on the trees, making a reminiscent of the eerie scenes in the Lord of the Rings. In fact, the river formed by the hot spring water from Changbai Mountain. After sightseeing, you will enjoy rafting on the hot spring water and passing through these mysterious forests, which is quite a special experience in Changbaishan.
Next, you will drive about 40 minutes to Naitoushan Village, the No.1 Village of Changbai Mountain, to enjoy the interesting winter activities. For travelers seeking for excitement, just take a Tractor-drawn Sled ride. Tractor-drawn Sled is a traditional means of transportation in the Changbaishan area. As the sled speeds up, you can hear the tractor rumbling and the wind roaring in your ears. Then, go to a river course in the forest to enjoy winter fishing. You will use some farm tools like spades, picks and axes to dig the ice, cast nets and catch the fish. It is also available to cook fish soups in the snow kitchen of the local village.
After the winter activities, you will drive about 2.5 hours to Wanda Changbaishan International Resort. Stay overnight there.
Notice: winter activities in Naitoushan Village is subject to change accordingly to the acutual travel season and weather.
Day 4 Changbaishan International Ski Resort Skiing (B)
Today's highlight: Skiing a full day
After breakfast, you will enjoy a full day's skiing time in Wanda Changbaishan International Ski Resort - one of the training bases for China’s national alpine ski team at the world's golden latitude of 42 ° - 46 ° for skiing. It perfectly combines the unique resource advantages of Changbai Mountain scenery and natural snow with the resort construction. For expert skiers, you can look for a challenge in the mogul fields with international standards. Don’t worry if you are a beginner or low intermediate, because there are excellent gentle terrains and plenty of open space. There are a total of 43 ski tails to meet different skiers’ requirements. Just put on your skiing clothes and boots, and bring your ski equipment. The white snow wonderland with captivating landscapes and happy atmospheres will deliver you a memorable winter holiday.
Optional Activities: Besides skiing, you can also take part in other exciting snow activities, such as snow house, snow circle, snow motorcycle, etc. It is also recommended to go to Hannah mountain hot spring if you want to relax your body.
Notes: 1) Best Snow Period is from mid-November to mid-April of the next year. 2) If you are a novice, we suggest you hire a coach to help you get started efficiently. 3) Snowboards and helmets are included in the package, but you need to purchase or bring your own ski clothes, gloves, ski glasses, knee-pad and masks (some can be rented). 4) Provided equipment includes snowboards， helmets, cablecar and Magic Carpet lifts, other advanced equipment like horse sledge, snow tubing, snowmobiling, etc. need extra payment.
Day 5 Changbaishan Departure (B)
Transfer to Changbaishan Airport for flight departure or Changbaishan Railway Station for train departure
Today is free until your guide and driver will escort you to catch your flight/train to your next destination or home. Tour ends!

Organisation
Everything went very smoothly, just like clockwork.
Guides
In each city, on our arrival we were met by our guide who took very good care of us.
Our guides were: Beijing- Andy; Xian - Grace; Guilin - Peter; Zhangjiajie - Nina; Shanghai - Jeff.
All the guides we had were knowledgeable about their city, its history, and culture. They were also friendly, and flexible in accommodating our requests and also showed their professionalism by always being on time in the morning and during our time with them, they were always helpful, patient and understanding.
I would like to mention that 2 of our guides (Andy in Beijing and Peter in Guilin) were excellent. Their English was fluent. It was also obvious that both took great pride in their work.
Peter was very earnest, and very clear and systematic in his explanation of what we would see and do in the places we visited and he was also extremely helpful.
Andy was the best guide we have ever had. In addition to the qualities mentioned above, we found him very energetic, enthusiastic, lively and with an amazing sense of humour. He was very flexible and really went out of his way to accommodate our requests, for example, to visit a place which was not on our itinerary, but which both of us wanted to see - a Catholic Church associated with Matteo Ricci. He knew interesting little areas and eating places to which he took us for local food and snacks. He even got us some snacks when he thought we might need some sustenance. We had interesting conversations with him and it seemed more like we were spending time with a friend rather than with a guide we had just met.
Nina, our guide in Zhangjiajie, was very sweet. Her English was not as fluent, but she was very caring, helpful, very patient and kind especially when we had to negotiate all the steps up and downhill in the mountains. She was always very concerned about how we were faring, even in the type of food we enjoyed when we told her we just wanted to try the local food.
Transportation
The cars we travelled in were very nice, clean and comfortable. All the drivers, besides being very helpful, especially with our luggage, were also skilful drivers who conveyed us safely through, often, very heavy traffic.
The express speed train from Beijing to Xian was an enjoyable experience. The train was very comfortable, and the toilets were very clean.
But the 7-hour journey on the high speed train which stopped at all the stations between Guilin and Zhnagjiajie was less comfortable.
The train itself was fine although the journey was long.
For one thing, there was a man just behind me who talked very loudly for hours on his mobile phone. I could not change seats because the train was quite full.
Then, there were 2 people quarrelling at the entrance of our compartment when we were trying to board the train. They blocked the entrance and refused to move until someone in charge of the compartment screamed (right next to my ear) for the security guard. We had to literally bulldoze our way into the train which was about to leave.
Hotels
The hotels, besides being grand, were clean, comfortable and had all the amenities we needed. The one in Guilin had a fantastic view.
In general the breakfasts provided by the hotels were also excellent.
Sights
We think China is a very beautiful country with so much history, culture and nature to enjoy. Being on a guided tour, we had less contact with the ordinary people than we would normally have when we do a free-and-easy trip. But, all in all, we had a great trip and we would like to visit China again.
So we are thinking of going to the following places sometime in October 2024, after the Chinese National Holiday in early October.

Nothing was too much trouble for Bree. She took us to quiet places when we needed a rest from the noise.
