“Very enjoyable 4 days on a fascinating and important river – the Yangtze”
The Victoria Selina does not look impressive in photographs, but do not let that affect your decision. It is in a good state of repair and although not super luxurious everything is well ordered and well-presented inside. The bar and dining room are both very attractive public spaces.
It was very reasonably priced, and our twin bed cabin with en-suite was spotless, with comfortable beds and excellent bathroom. The food had great variety, suiting all. And it was buffet, plentiful and tasty. We had a banquet on our last night…fabulous.
Side trips from the ship were well organized by our Cruise director and enjoyable despite soaring summer temperatures. Our guides spoke good English; sometimes excellent, allowing questions to be asked and answered without resorting to software.
“Victoria Selina is a great experience”
This is an older ship, but is a great experience. We had a Junior Suite which was large and had windows on two sides. The bath was adequate and included a tub. The cabin was attractive and beds were comfortable. A large screen high definition television with satellite access completed the accommodations.
Food at all meals was very good, and included Western selections at breakfast and lunch. Chinese selections at dinner were quite tasty and attractive.
Ship's crew were extremely friendly and helpful, especially the Chinese cruise director, Campbell, who made sure all passenger needs were satisfied. On a slow afternoon, he made sure we knew we could arrange special movies to be viewed in our room, or in a larger venue.
We were sorry to leave the ship.
“Victoria Selina 3-Day Cruise”
We took the 3-day tour on the Victoria Selina from Chongqing to Yichang. the dining service and food was excellent and the conditions ideal for comfort and viewing while eating. Because of the older age of our group (@ age 55 - 75), we did not take the initial excursion to the temple, but visited a resettled family along the river.
The cabins were modest but comfortable and certainly comparable to any other river cruise. The service was excellent including complementary laundry, shoe-shine and two bottles of bottled water every day. The shows after dinner were entertaining. There was also free computer/Internet access on the boat while in those areas of the Yangtze that were conducive to WiFi.
Even though the river has changed with the advent of the 3 Gorges dam, it is still a rather spectacular trip if you have the time.
