4 Days Koguryo World Heritage Sites Exploration from Changchun

Full Itinerary Day by day

Day 1 Changchun Arrival

Welcome to Changchun! Upon arrival, you will be met by your guide and driver at the airport or train station, and then be escorted to your hotel. The rest of today is free for you.

Arrival Ideas: 1) You can take a flight to Changchun from Beijing (2h), Shanghai (3h), Xian (3h), Guangzhou (4h), Chengdu (3.5h), Chongqing (3.5h), Nanjing (2.5h), Hangzhou (3h), Xiamen (4h), etc. 2) You can take a high speed train to Changchun from Beijing (4.5h), Harbin (1h), Dalian (3~4h), Tianjin (4.5~6h), Nanjing (9.5~10h), Wuhan (11.5h), Zhengzhou (9~10h), Shanghai (11h), Qingdao (10h), etc.

Day 2 Changchun - Jian (B)

Today's tour starts from the Puppet Emperor's Palace, the official residence created by the Imperial Japanese Army for China's last emperor Puyi to live in as Emperor of the puppet state of Manchukuo in the early 20th century. The main structure of the palace can be divided into two parts - the residential quarter for daily life and the administrative quarter for political activities. Now they are informative museums displayed with many antiquities (including artifacts and annals) detailing the history of the fake Manchu Dynasty. Next, visit the Eight Ministries of Puppet Manchuguo Regime from the outside, which were established as a way for the Japanese invaders to legitimize their claim to the territory of Northeast China. You will view the different architectural styles there.

After sightseeing, you will drive about 4 hours to Ji'an City. Stay overnight in Ji'an.

Day 3 Jian (B)

Today, you will spend a full day exploring Jian. The World Heritage site - Capital Cities and Tombs of the Ancient Koguryo Kingdom includes the archaeological remains of three cities and 40 tombs, and most of them (2 cities and 40 tombs) are spread around the green hills surrounding Jian City. Start today's cultural exploration from Jian Museum (Goguryeo Cultural Relics Exhibition Center) - an informative museum well displaying cultural relics excavated from tombs. The exhibits are well classified and sorted in the gallery, and you can learn the history and culture of ancient Koguryo Kingdom under the guide's explanation.

After getting an overview of Koguryo Kingdom, drive to General Tomb - a 12-meter-tall tomb known as the Oriental Pyramid because of its triangle shape. It is estimated to be the tomb of King Changshou, the 20th king of the Goguryeo Dynasty in the late fourth and early fifth centuries. Next, turn to Haotaiwang Tomb - only typical tomb of Goguryeo king whose age and occupant are known. There is a stele inscribed with 1775 Chinese characters that records the accomplishments of Haotaiwang, the king of Koguryo during the period from AD374 to AD412. You can enter and see the stone burial slabs. Then you will visit Wandushan City Ruins - the site of the capital from 37 BC to 668 BC and the longest-lasting capital in the early and middle periods of Goguryeo Kingdom. The original buildings were destroyed, but you can see some city ruins and figure the original city sites with the explanation of our guide. Besides, it is still extremely enjoyable when you scramble the terraces and savor the charming view. And, you will also get an answer to the question why the capital is established here.

After sightseeing, drive back to your hotel in Jian City for accommodation.

Day 4 Jian Departure (B)

Today is free until you are escorted to the airport or railway station to catch your flight or train to your next destination.

Departure Idea: Tonghua Sanyuanpu Airport (140 km away from Ji'an City) operates daily flights to Beijing (2 hours), and weekly flights to Tianjin (2 hours), Guangzhou (6 hours), Harbin (2 hours), Dalian (1~1.5 hours), Shanghai (4 hours).

1. This price is for one person, based on a group of 2 adults sharing one standard double-bed room in a 4-star hotel and traveling with our private tour in low seasons.
2. This price is subject to change according to your traveling season, group size, hotel class, change of activities in your itinerary and possible fluctuation of currency exchange rate. If you want a lower price, you can get more people to join you, or use economy class hotels.
3. This price is only valid to March 31, 2025.
4. Reference exchange rate of USD 1=RMB 7.00. The final quote is based on current exchange rate. It may change according to the currency fluctuation, while the RMB quotation will be remained the same.

1A: Wing Zeng always responds to our emails very promptly. At the beginning when I planned to book the cruise, Wing Zeng has been very patient to respond to all my questions about the cruise itinerary and the cabin types. I am very happy with her service.

2A: With Wing Zeng's help, our tour arrangements were very smooth. Our family travel with one senior and one small child, so we were very careful about transportation to and from the port. On the day of embarkation, Wing Zeng helped us book a van transfer directly from our hotel in Jingzhou to the port, which made the embarkation process very smooth and enjoyable.

3A: Definitely. I highly recommend your service to anyone who wants to take the Yangtze cruises.

4A: I'm very satisfied with your service. Our travel consultant is very helpful and professional.

5A: It would be nice if you could give a little warning that the water level in Chongqing might be too low around this time of year. Originally, our cruise was scheduled to end at Chongqing Chaotianmen port. But because of the low water level, we had to disembark somewhere else and took a 2-hour drive to Chaotianmen. The cruise arranges the transfer smoothly and it worked out fine in the end. But if this is something that happens usually around this time of year, it would be nice to be given a little warning beforehand.
