Hong Kong MTR system consists of 159 stations. Those stations are spread out and can be found near most of the city’s attractions, airport, railway stations, ports, etc. Usually, most of the metros run every 2-6 minutes from 6:00am till 1:00am, with slight difference from line to line. For example, the service time of Airport Express running from Hong Kong Airport to Hong Kong downtown is from 05:54 to 00:48 (next day).

Hong Kong to Shenzhen by MTR

Hong Kong and Shenzhen are connected with convenient Hong Kong MTR service and Shenzhen Metro service directly. There are two stations on MTR East Rail Line available for your journey from Hong Kong to Shenzhen: Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau. If you get off at Lo Wu Station, you can cross the border at Louhu Port to Shenzhen. And if you are going to Lok Ma Chau, you can cross the border at Futian Port or Huanggang Port to Shenzhen.

After cross the border at Luohu Port, you can change Shenzhen Metro line 1 to continue your tour to Shenzhen. Huanggang Port is linked with Shenzhen downtown by Shenzhen Metro line 7 and Futian Port is line 4.

Hong Kong MTR Fare & Cards

The Hong Kong MTR tickets can be booked at the Customer Service Centre or Ticket Issuing Machines at MTR stations. For visitors, there are Single Journey Tickets, Tourist Day Pass, Tourist Cross-boundary Travel Pass and Octopus Card you can choose. In order to save on the wait for buying tickets and save on fares, you are mostly suggested to using the Hong Kong MTR Octopus Card.

Tips of Riding Hong Kong MTR

1. You are suggested to avoid the rush hours (8–9am and 5–6pm) if possible, because the metro will get extremely crowded during that time.
2. If you are going to stay at Hong Kong for more than 2 days, you are highly recommended to buy an Octopus Card, by which you can take metro, buses and ferries more conveniently.
