Lhasa to Nyingchi Trains: Schedule, Ticket, Fares, Stations 2024

Lhasa-Nyingchi Railway, the first electrified railway of Tibet, opens on June 25, 2020. Tibet thus runs the first Fuxing bullet train and joins the Fuxing bullet train family. Along with the operation of this rail line, the 435-km-long journey between Lhasa and Nyingchi is shortened to 3.5 hours only, and Shigatse is linked with Nyingchi directly for a 7 hours' train journey.

At present, there are 3 trains running from Lhasa Railway Station to Nyingchi Railway Station each day, including 2 Fuxing bullet trains (D trains) and 1 normal speed train (Z train). The Fuxing bullet trains run faster, have less stops on the way and takes about 3.5-4 hours, while the normal train stops at more stations for a total 5 hours’ ride.

With a length of 435.48 km (270.6 mi), the Lhasa Nyingchi Railway starts from Lhasa Railway Station, stretches eastward to Nyingchi Railway Station via Shannan. The new railroad directly links with the already existed Lhasa Shigatse Railway, making it more convenient to travel around Tibet.

Lhasa Railway Station 拉萨火车站

Transportation: about 13 km, 30 minutes’ drive to downtown Lhasa; about 7 km, 20 minutes’ drive to Potala Palace; about 8 km, 25 minutes’ drive to Barkhor Street and Jokhang Temple; about 6 km, 15minutes’ drive to Norbulingka; about 13 km, 30 minutes’ drive to Sera Monastery; about 60 km, 1.5 hours’ to Ganden Monastery; about 172 km, 3 hours’ drive to Namsto Lake; about 52 km, 50 minutes’ drive to Lhasa Gonggar Airport.

Nyingchi (Linzhi) Railway Station 林芝火车站

Address: Zire Village, Bayi District, Nyingchi,Tibet 西藏自治区林芝市巴宜区孜热村

Transportation: about 18.5 km, 30 minutes’ drive to Nyingchi City; about 135 km, 2 hours’ drive to Bamsum Tso Lake; about 52 km, 1 hour 10 minutes’ drive to Lulang Forest; about 33 km, 40 minutes’ drive to Nyingchi Mainling Airport.

How to Plan Your Lhasa Nyingchi Tour

With more flights and trains, Lhasa is usually used as the gateway to Tibet and the first station for a Tibet tour. Most travelers spend 2 to 3 days visiting the landmarks in Lhasa. On the arrival day, you’d better have a rest to acclimatize yourself to the high altitude. On the following days, you can take one day to visit the iconic Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street nearby, another day for the Norbulingka, Sera Monastery and Drepung Monastery. If time allows, it’s highly suggested to visit the sacred and beautiful Namsto Lake.

If you drive from Lhasa to Nyingchi, you can drop by Ganden Monastery in suburb Lhasa and Kading Valley and Bamsum Tso Lake before arriving in Nyingchi. When in Nyingchi, you can take one day to visit the Lulang Forest and the old King Cypress. If you visit Nyingchi in spring (end of March to mid-April), you can visit a local village to enjoy the romantic peach flower blossom.
