Jinshanling Great Wall Maps 2024: Location, Transportation, Tourist & Hiking

Jinshanling Great Wall starts at Longyukou in the west and ends at Jinglou in the east. The whole section is around 10.5km. The shortest distance between two watchtowers is less than 60m, and the longest distance is less than 200m. The density of the tower building should be the highest among all the Great Walls. There are fewer tourists, less steep hiking area, and the same magnificent views.

Jinshanling Great Wall Location Maps

Located in Hualougou, Bakeshiyin Town, Luanping County, Heibei Province (河北省承德滦平县巴克什营镇花楼沟村), Jinshanling Great Wall connects Simatai Great Wall to the East and Gubeikou Great Wall to the west, and it is adjacent to Miyun District, Beijing, in the north. It is about 130km to Beijing downtown, 91km to Chengde City in Hebei.

There are usually 2 ways to get to Jinshanling Great Wall from Beijing downtown.

Option 1: By car - fast & comfortable, about 3 hours

Many taxi drivers are not willing to take you to Jinshanling in Hebei Province, since it is too far. Option 2: By bus - cheap but longer, 3.5-4 hours

There are two bus choices. The first one: Jinshanling Tourist Bus. You can get on at Dongzhimen Wai Bus Station (915, 924 bus station) 东直门外汽车站 (Address:45 Dongzhimen Xie Rd, Beijing 北京东直门外斜街45号) and get off at Jinshanling Great Wall Parking Lot. Since the tourist bus only serves during the peak season (mid-March to mid-November). Apart from it, you can choose to take Bus 980 to Miyun Shaonian Gong Station (密云少年宫站) and transfer to bus 25 to Gubeikou Station. Though there is no direct bus from Guibeikou to Jinshanling, it is only 16km from each other. You can take a private car getting there, which takes around half an hour.

Simatai to Jinshanling Transportation Map

Bordered by Jinshanling Great Wall, Simatai Great Wall is only 16km away from it. The two sections are connected by some unopened trails. Though some local tourists will choose to hike along the two sections. However, it is not permitted and the wild trail is at the border of Heibei Province and Beijing, which is far beyond the reach of emergency staff. Therefore, the only legal way to get to Jinshanling is to take a private car when you finish Simatai section and no direct bus runs between them. The whole duration by car will be around half an hour.

Stretching over 10.5km, with 67 densely dotted watchtowers, 3 beacon towers and 5 passes, Jinshanling Great Wall is one of the best preserved parts of the Great Wall with many original features. The main facilities like hotels, restaurants, and toilets are located near the main gate. The cableway station is near the ticket office at the main gate, and it is about 200 meters from the entrance to the small Jinshan Tower (小金山楼). Besides the main gate, there is another gate in the east. You can reach the mid-section of Jinshanling, Five-window Tower from the east gate.

Jinshanling Great Wall is one of the best hiking sections with both good facilities and well-preserved hiking paths. Besides hiking enthusiasts, tourists can also come to join the Jinshanling Great Wall Marathon in spring. It has been held there for six times since 2012. Besides the great Wall sections, there are 3 recommended hiking routes around Jinshanling area. The shortest one, a 10KM route, will take about 3 hours (the purple one), and the half route covers the whole great wall section and the neighboring highways, which takes about 6 hours. The full route is the longest and most challenging, including the whole great wall section, the highway, hot spring sites, and the villages around, and you need at least 9 hours to finish it.
