From Beijing West Railway Station to Great Wall by Public Transportation

If you want to use public transportation, be ready to transfer several times. Getting to Beijing West Railway Station early, you can transfer to Dongzhimen Wai Bus Station (东直门外站) which takes about 1 hours. From Dongzhimen Wai Bus Station, you can catch a tourist Bus to Mutianyu, Jinshanling, Simatai, Badaling, and Huanghuacheng Great Wall. Notably, in slack season, tourist buses may be cancelled. Besides, almost all tourist buses depart from Dongzhimen Wail Bus Station in the morning (around 6:30 ~ 9:00) and back in the afternoon (around 16:00). Remember to manage your time carefully to avoid missing the tourist bus, or you will have to use complicate buses transfer.

Badaling and Simatai an also be accessible by train. You'll first transfer to Beijing North Railway Station and then take an about 1 to 2 hours' train. After that, you need to take a bus for another 1 hour to get there, which is quite inconvenient. How to Plan a Great Wall Tour in Beijing

From different departure cities, you may get to Beijing West Railway Station in different time. If you have only half a day, you are suggested to travel a less crowded Great Wall with closer distance to Beijing City, like Mutianyu, Jinshanling, Simatai and Huanghuacheng Great Wall. It is also necessary to use a private driving service to make sure you have more time spent on the walls. On your way back to Beijing City after Great Wall journey, you can take a stop to view the amazing architecture of Bird's Nest and Water Cube in Olympic Park if time allows.
