You can transfer between Beijing and almost all the major cities such as Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xian, Guilin, Hong Kong easily by G trains (250-400km/h), D trains (200-250 km/h), Z trains (up to 160 km/h), T trains (up to 140 km/h), or K trains (up to 120 km/h).

Trains to Beijing

Shanghai to Beijing Trains

Almost every 15 - 30 minutes from about 06:30 to 21:30, there is a train from Shanghai to Beijing. The trains all depart from Shanghai Hongqiao/ Shanghai / Shanghai South Railway Station to Beijing South / Beijing Railway Station. The high speed train G80 running from Hong Kong West Kowloon Terminus to Beijing West Railway Station was put into operation in Sep. 23, 2018. Beijing to Lhasa Trains

With a distance of 3545km, you will need to stay 2 nights on the train. It is quite challenging, so the soft sleeper is recommended. Beijing Railway Stations

There are five train stations in Beijing, named Beijing Railway Station, Beijing West Railway Station, Beijing South Railway Station, Changping North Railway Station, and Beijing East Railway Station, so you need to pay attention to your ticket information to get to the right train Station.

Beijing Railway Station

Location: No.13, Maojiawan Hutong Jia, Dongcheng District, Southeast Beijing (北京市东城区毛家湾胡同甲13号)

Beijing Railway Station is built in 1901 in the Qing Dynasty. As one of the three main train stations of Beijing, Beijing Railway Station departs about 159 trains to Northern China, most of which are normal trains (Z, T, K trains) on Beijing Shanghai Railway, Beijing Harbin Railway and Beijing Chengde Railway. Meanwhile, it runs about 50 daily bullet trains to cities in northeastern China such as Dalian, Shenyang, Qiqihar, and Tangshan.

To Forbidden City: 30 minutes’ drive, or take Bus 1 or 52 which takes about 45 minutes.

To Tian’anmen Square: taking subway Line 2 is the fastest way, only 20 minutes

To Temple of Heaven: 20 minutes’ drive, or take subway Line 5 which takes about 30 minutes.

To Summer Palace: 1 hour’s drive, or take subway Line 2 then transfer to Line 4 which also takes about 1 hour.

To Beijing Capital International Airport: about 1 hour, take subway Line 2 then transfer at Dongzhimen to take the airport shuttle bus.

Beijing West Railway Station

Location: No.118, East Lianhuachi Road, Fengtai District, Beijing (北京市丰台区莲花池东路118号)

Beijing West Railway Station is one of the main train stations of Beijing, which runs both high speed trains and normal trains. Besides, it is the starting point of Beijing Guangzhou (High Speed) Railway and Beijing Kowloon (Hong Kong) Railway. If you want to take a Tibet train, you need to go to Beijing West Railway Station. Every day, it delivers 273 daily trains to other cities, and about 200 of them are high speed trains (G trains) to Xian, Chengdu, Chongqing, Taiyuan, Kunming, Lanzhou, Wuhan, Zhengzhou, Changsha and couples of D trains to Shenzhen.

To Forbidden City: 30 minutes’ drive, or take subway Line 9 then transfer to Line 1 which takes about 45 minutes.

To Tian’anmen Square: 30 minutes, take subway Line 9 then transfer to Line 1.

To Temple of Heaven: 30 minutes by driving or taking subway Line 7

To Summer Palace: 30 minutes’ drive, or take subway Line 9 then transfer to Line 4 which takes about 40 minutes.

To Beijing Capital International Airport: 1 hour’s drive, or take subway Line 9 then transfer to Line 4, and then transfer to Line 2 to Dongzhimen and take an airport shuttle bus which takes about 75 minutes.

Beijing South Railway Station

Location: No.12, Yongwai Avenue, Fengtai District, South Beijing (北京市丰台区永外大街12号)

Beijing South Railway Station is the largest train station and a principal pivot departing and receiving the most trains in Beijing, which is located at 7km southwest of Temple of Heaven for 20 mins’ ride. Initially built in 1897, it went through 2 years’ reconstruction and expansion, and opened again as a highly-modernized high speed train station with 13 platform and 24 rail tracks. Based on the link of Beijing Tianjin Intercity Railway and Beijing Shanghai High Speed Railway, it provides a well-developed transport network through the whole country.

To Forbidden City: 30 minutes’ drive, or take subway Line 4 then transfer to Line 1 which takes about 45 minutes.

To Tian’anmen Square: 25 minutes’ drive, or take subway Line 4 then transfer to Line 1 which takes about 40 minutes.

To Temple of Heaven: 20 minute’s drive, or take subway Line 14 then transfer to Line 5 which takes about 30 minutes.

To Summer Palace: 45 minutes’ drive, or take subway Line 4 which takes about 1 hour.

To Beijing Capital International Airport: 1 hour’s drive, or take subway Line 4 then transfer to Line 2 to Dongzhimen and take an airport shuttle bus which takes about 75 minutes.

Beijing East Railway Station

Location: No.118, East Lianhuachi Road, Fengtai District, Beijing (北京市丰台区莲花池东路118号)

Located next to the East 4th Ring Road, Beijing East Railway Station mainly serves for freight transportation and little passenger service. The station handles daily short-distance trains between Yanjiao Town and Beijing, Chengde and Handan, Beijing and Tongzhou.

To Forbidden City: 30 minute’s drive, or take bus No. 31 then transfer to bus No. 1 which takes about 1 hour.

To Tian’anmen Square: 30 minute’s drive, or take subway Line 1 which takes about 1 hour.

To Temple of Heaven: 20 minute’s drive, or take bus No. 87 then transfer to bus No. 54 which takes about 50 minutes.

To Summer Palace: 50 minute’s drive, or take bus No. 87 to Shuangjinqiaodong, then take subway Line 10 and transfer to Line 4 which takes about 1.5 hours.

To Beijing Capital International Airport: 35 minute’s drive, or take bus No. 87 then take subway Line 10 to Sanyuanqiao and take an airport shuttle bus there which takes about 75 minutes.

Changping North Railway Station

Location: North Ring Road, Changping District, North Suburb of Beijing (北京市昌平区北环路)

Beijing North Railway Station is closed for now for the construction of Beijing Zhangjiakou Inter-city Railway, an essential transport project for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing and Zhangjiakou. Thus, all the trains of Beijing North Railway Station were moved to Changping Railway Station temporarily. The Changping station is a small train station built in 1976, now departing 10 normal trains to the suburb and surrounding area.

To Forbidden City: 1 hour’s drive, or take bus No. 886 then transfer to bus No. 5 which takes about 2 hours.

To Tian’anmen Square: 1 hour’s drive, or take bus No. 57 then transfer to bus No. 889 and then take subway Line 2 which takes about 1 hour 45 minutes.

To Temple of Heaven: 75 minutes’ drive, or take subway Line Changping then transfer to Line 13 and then Line 5 which takes about 2 hours.

To Summer Palace: 50 minutes’ drive, or take subway Line Changping then transfer to Line 13 to Wudaokou and then take bus No. 331 which takes about 2 hours.

To Beijing Capital International Airport: 1 hour’s drive, or take the airport shuttle bus Changping Line which takes about 2 hours.
