Beijing South Railway Station (北京南站)

Location: #12, Yongwai Avenue, Fengtai District, South Beijing (北京市丰台区永外大街12号)

Beijing South Railway Station is the largest train station and a principal pivot departing and receiving most of the trains in Beijing, which is located at 7km southwest of Temple of Heaven for 20 mins’ ride. Based on the link of Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Railway and Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway, it provides a well-developed transport network throughout the whole country.

Travel from Beijing to Tianjin Beijing South Railway Station

Tianjin Railway Station (天津站)

Location: #1, Xinwei Road, Hebei District, Tianjin (天津市河北区新纬路1号)

Tianjin Railway Station, also known as Tianjin East Railway Station, is a large-scale transportation junction integrating functions to take railways, metros, buses and taxis, and an important part of Tianjin Railway Hub. As of September 2009, the total building area of Tianjin Railway Station is 185,000 square meters covering 10 platforms and 18 rail tracks. Now it mainly serves Tianjin-Shanhaiguan Railway, Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Railway, and Tianjin-Qinhuangdao High-speed Railway.

To downtown (Binjiang Road, Heping District): Tianjian Railway Station is actually located in downtown area. You can get to Binjiang Road in 15 minutes’ drive.

To Tianjin Binhai International Airport: about 19km, 40 minutes’ drive.

To Tianjin Port: about 67km, 80 minutes’ drive.

Tianjin West Railway Station (天津西站)

Location: #1, Xizhan Front Street, Hongqiao District, Tianjin City (天津市红桥区西站前街1号)

Tianjin West Railway Station, is one of the five starting stations of Beijing-Shanghai High Speed Railway, and the largest railway station in Tianjin City. Up to June 2011, the total building area of Tianjin West Railway Station reached 180,000 square meters with a scale of 13 platforms and 26 rail tracks. Now it mainly serves Beijing-Shanghai Railway, Tianjin-Baoding Railway, Tianjin-Qinhuangdao High-speed Railway, Tianjin-Shanghai High-speed Railway, and Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Railway.

Tianjin South Railway Station (天津南站)

Location: Liujing Road, Xiqing District, Tianjin (天津市西青区柳静路)

Tianjin South Railway Station is the first viaduct railway station in China. As of June 2011, the total building area of Tianjin South Railway Station is 3999 square meters with 2 platforms and 6 rail tracks. It now mainly serves Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway.

To downtown (Binjiang Road, Heping District): about 21km, 1 hour's drive.

To Tianjin Binhai International Airport: about 42.5km, 70 minutes’ drive

To Tianjin Port: about 100km, drive for 1h 40 minutes.

Beijing to Tianjin Long-distance Buses

Taking a bus to Tianjin from Beijing may be a good choice years ago, before the high speed trains were put into operation. Now you can still take this way as a plan B or try it if you want to have a long-distance bus experience in China.

The bus trip usually needs 2 hours and the price varies from CNY 35 - 82. You can take the bus at Bawangfen Long-distance Bus Station, Sihui Long-distance Bus Station, Zhaogongkou Long-distance Bus Station, and Beijing Capital International Airport Passenger Station. Most of them arrive at Tianjin Tongsha Passenger Station or Tianjin West Passenger Station.

Bawangfen Long-distance Bus Station (八王坟长途客运站)
Location: #17 West Dawang Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing (北京市朝阳区西大望路17号), about 7.5km, 30 minutes’ drive to the east of Beijing center (Tiananmen Square).
Departure time: 7:30, 9:30,10:00, 10:30, 11:00, 12:30, 13:30, 15:30, 16:30, 17:00, 18:00, 18:30

Sihui Long-distance Bus Station (四惠长途客运站)
Location: #68 Jianguo Road, Chaoyang District, Beijng (北京市朝阳区建国路68号), about 11.5km, 40 minutes’ drive to the east of Beijing center (Tiananmen Square).
Departure time: 6:30, 7:30, 8:30, 9:30, 10:00, 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 13:30, 14:00, 14:30, 15:30, 16:30

Zhaogongkou Long-distance Bus Station (赵公口长途客运站)
Location: #34 South 3rd Ring Middle Road, Fengtai District, Beijing (北京市丰台区南三环中路34号), about 9km, 35 minutes’ drive to the south of Beijing center (Tiananmen Square).
Departure time: 7:30, 8:10, 8:50, 9:30, 10:10, 10:50, 11:30, 12:00, 12:15, 13:00, 13:40, 14:20, 15:10, 16:00, 17:00, 18:00

Location: Gate 15, 1st Floor, T2 and Gate 1, 1st Floor, T3 at Beijing Capital International Airport, about 30km, 1 hour’s drive from Beijing center (Tiananmen Square).
Departure time: usually every 30-60 minutes from 6:30am to 23:00pm

How to Get to Tianjin Port from Beijing

Tianjin Port is located at the estuary of Haihe River, about 70km from Tianjin downtown. At present, there is no direct train or bus from Beijing to Tianjin Port. You can take a high speed train to Binhai Railway Station, Tianjin Railway Station, or Tanggu Railway Station first and then transfer to Tianjin Port.

Note: Tianjin Port covers a large area and may refer to different locations that are miles away. The one we talk about here is where people can take a cruise and its full name is Tianjin International Cruise Home Port (天津国际邮轮母港).

Option 1: Via Binhai Railway Station (1 hour’s high-speed train + 40 minutes’ drive or 1.5 hours' direct bus)

Binhai Railway Station is about 25km from Tianjin Port. It takes about 40 minutes to drive there (about CNY 80 by taxi). Direct buses are also available and it needs about 1.5 hours. 25 high speed trains travel from Beijing South to Binhai Railway Station every day. The earliest one departs at around 06:00am and the latest one is around 21:30pm. The trains will take you to Tianjin safely in an hour.

Option 2: Via Tianjin Railway Station (30 minutes’ high-speed train + 1.5 hours’ drive or 2.5 hours’ bus)

As mentioned above, taking a high speed train from Beijing to Tianjin Railway Station is very convenient. But it may take you another 2.5 hours to get to the port by public transportation with a distance of about 72km (about 1.5 hours and CNY 200 by taxi).

Option 3: Via Tanggu Railway Station (1 hour’s high-speed train + 45 minutes’ drive or 2 hours' bus)

Tanggu Railway Station is about 30km from Tianjin Port, by car it only takes 45 minutes (about CNY 90 by taxi), but by bus you will need about 2 hours. There are 20 daily high speed trains from Beijing to Tanggu. The earliest and latest trains respectively leave Beijing South at around 06:00am and 21:30pm. You will need to spend about 1 hour on the train.
