You are suggested to spend 2 ~ 5 days touring Chongqing. If you have two days, you can firstly visit the highlights of Chongqing City, including Ciqikou Ancient City – Chongqing's old harbor with lots of Ming and Qing Dynasties' architectures, E'ling Park which is also one old private garden offering a bird's eye view of whole Chongqing City, and Three Gorge Museum – the largest monographic museum displaying the history and culture of Three Gorges Project and its origins. Another day can be spent in Dazu Rock Carvings where you can admire the exquisitely sculpted Buddhist carvings. If you have more time, don't miss the Wulong Karst Landscape.
In fact, most travelers visit Chongqing for a Yangtze River Cruise journey along Yichang-Chongqing section of China's longest River – Yangtze River. The upper stream (Yichang to Chongqing) Yangtze River Cruise takes 5 days and the lower stream (Chongqing to Yichang) Yangtze River Cruise takes 4 days. Apart from the unforgettable sightseeing on your journey of discovery of Three Gorges, you will also take some enjoyable excursion as well.
As close neighbors, Chengdu and Chongqing are always visited together by most travelers. Chengdu is famous for its laidback pace, diversity of cultural scenes and can't-be-missed giant pandas. In addition, it is a perfect gateway to many other UNESCO World Heritage sites (like Dujiangyan Irrigation System, Qingcheng Mountain, Leshan Giant Buddha, Emei Mountain, Jiuzhaigou Valley, etc.). Before your Chongqing trip, it is a good idea to travel Chengdu and surrounding first.
