Shanghai operates more than 5 daily high speed trains to Shenzhen, including 1 direct G train and some D bullet trains. These trains leave Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station in the morning (about 7:00 ~ 11:30) and arrive at Shenzhen North Railway Station at night (18:30-23:00). The whole journey is around 11.5 hours. There are 2 normal trains available as well. In the peak seasons (June ~ April & February), there might be additional trains operated between Shanghai and Shenzhen.

Shanghai Shenzhen High Speed Train Route

The distance of Shanghai Shenzhen High Speed Railway reaches 1,623km (1,008 miles) and it starts from Shanghai to Guangdong Province via Zhejiang Province and Fujian Province. Traveling along the railway, you can feast on the beautiful landscape out of the window. The trains may take stops at some or all of the midway railway stations, like Hangzhou East (杭州东), Ningbo (宁波), Wenzhou South (温州南), Fuzhou South (福州南), Xiamen North (厦门北), Huizhou South (惠州北), etc. In the peak seasons (June ~ April & February), there might be additional trains operated between Shanghai and Shenzhen.

Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station (上海虹桥站)

Located in No.1500, Shengui Road, Minhang District, West Shanghai (上海市闵行区申贵路1500号), Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station is about 20 kilometers to the center of Shanghai, 25 kilometers to the Bund (about 40 minutes' driving), 25 kilometers to Lujiazui (about 50 minutes' driving), 25 kilometers to Yuyuan Garden (about 45 minutes' driving) and 20 kilometers to Shanghai Museum (about 40 minutes' driving). As one transport hub in Shanghai City, it can be reached by subway (metro Line 2 and Line 10), public bus and taxi. Shenzhen North Railway Station (深圳北站)

Located in No. 28, Zhiyuan Middle Road, Longhua New District, Shenzhen (深圳市龙华新区致远中路28号), Shenzhen North Railway Station is the largest high speed railway station in Shenzhen. It serves as the starting station of Hangzhou-Shenzhen High Speed Railway and an important midway station along Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High Speed Railway. Shenzhen North Railway Station is 16km to Window of the World (30 minutes’ driving), 10km to Shenzhen Museum (25 minutes’ driving) and 15km to China Folk Culture Village (about 25 minutes’ driving). You can reach by metro Line 4, metro Line 5, public bus and taxi.

There are Second Class Seats, First Class Seats and Business Class Seats on most high speed G-trains. The second class is the standard type at a budget price. The First Class Seats feature in much quieter and more comfortable environment. The Business Class Seats offer a luxury experience onboard. Book, Collect, Alter and Cancel a Ticket

The train ticket can be booked online, with a ticket agency, at the ticket offices in railway stations etc. Remember to book your ticket as soon as possible, especially in the peak seasons. Reading tickets carefully to make sure that you get to the correct railway station and board the correct train. For foreign travelers without Chinese ID card, you have to collect, alter and cancel your train ticket from the ticket offices. Board & Disembark a Train

1) Prepare your documents well (passport, visa); 2) Get to the right trains station in advance 3) collect train tickets; 4) Read your train ticket; 5) Pass the Identity Check; 6) Security check & luggage check; 7) Find right waiting room; 8) Cross the ticket checking gate; 9) Get to the right platform; 10) Get on your train. Baggage Allowance

Each passenger is able to take a high speed train with personal luggage in certain weight and volume without limitation of amount and types. Generally, the luggage won't be weighed and measured specifically, so you can take as much as you can hand it independently and place it in the train station. Since you are staying around Yannan Station, you can take metro Line 2 to Futian Station (福田站) and collect your ticket in Futian Train Station. I’m sorry that free metro service is only provided to the senior citizen who lived in Shenzhen, so travelers have to buy the ticket.
