Lanzhou is the capital and largest city in Gansu Province in Northwest China. It used to be an important stop along the Ancient Silk Road as well as the head of the famous Hexi Corridor. There are about 4 pairs of D bullet trains running from Lanzhou to Urumqi. The earliest one starts at 07:50 and arrives at nearly 20:00 in the evening, while the last one departs at 10:40. All the 4 High Speed Trains back from Urumqi to Lanzhou also depart in the morning, from 08:40 to 12:22. Taking high speed train saves about 14 hours compared with taking normal K train which takes 24 hours. For it also needs about 11.5 hours by taking High Speed Train, you can make some short tours along the rail. Actually, the Lanzhou Xinjiang (Urumqi) High Speed Train has already covered almost every tourist city of northwestern China, including Zhangye, Jiayuguan, Turpan, etc.

Between Lanzhou and Shanghai, there is 1 pair of G high speed train on service. This bullet train starts at about 10:39 in the morning and arrives at Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station at about 21:26 during night time, for about 10.8 hours. As the train running in the day time and needs a little long time, if you have a long vacation or not in a hurry during your tour, you could take the Business Class Seats on the train to enjoy the view along the way from the east part to the west part in China comfortably. Actually, Xining is the capital city of Qinghai province, while Lanzhou is the capital city of Gansu province, which is both next to Qinghai province and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Between the two capital cities, there are altogether nearly 15 pairs of daily high speed D trains running between Lanzhou West Railway Station in Lanzhou and Xining Railway Station in Xining. The frequent High Speed Trains make it easy to transfer in the two famous tourist destinations in Northwestern China.

Same as Lanzhou, Zhangye is also located in Gansu province. As one of the top tourist cities of Gansu, Zhangye has already wildly known by tourists at home and abroad for its amazing Danxia landform and Great Buddha Temple. At present, 10 D-trains are served for Lanzhou Zhangye traveling, by which travelers can easily transfer from Lanzhou to Zhangye for about 4 hours. The trains are available from 7:25 to 17:22 every day. Considering some practical situations, including the language barrier and driving problems, you are highly recommended to take those convenient high speed trains. Thus, you can have more spare time to enjoy the wonderful landmarks outside the windows.

Duration: around 5.5 ~ 6 hours
Jiayuguan Pass played a significant role on the Ancient Silk Road and military defensive project. The current Jiayuguan Pass is mainly for tourist use, for it is the greatest, oldest and most legendary pass among all the passes along the Great Wall. Both Lanzhou Railway Station and Lanzhou West Railway Station have high speed trains traveling to Jiayuguan. Among the 9 D trains from Lanzhou to Jiayuguan, 2 trains starting from Lanzhou Railway Station and the rest from Lanzhou West Station. The earliest one starts from Lanzhou West at 07:25 and arrives at Jiayuguan South at 12:46. The last train D2753 departs from Lanzhou Station at around 17:22 and arrives at Jiayuguan South at about 22:59 at night. All trains need only about 5.5 hours to get to Jiayuguan. It is a good idea to travel by high speed train to explore along the ancient Silk Road.

Thanks to the rapid development of high speed train network in China. High Speed Trains make it possible to travel from Lanzhou to Turpan area within 10 hours around. D2701 starts at 07:50 and arrives at Turpan after 11 hours' travel. D2703 starts at 08:20, D55 starts at 08:36, and runs approximately 11.5 horus. D2711, the last one, starts at 10:40 and arrives at Turpan in the evening. You can choose one ideal train from Lanzhou to Turpan for 11 hours’ transfer.
