Two Railway Stations in Pingyao

At present, Pingyao has only two train stations serving travelers to Pingyao. One is Pingyao Ancient City Railway Station especially built for high speed bullet trains. Another one is the old Pingyao Railway Station running a few normal trains to Pingyao from other cities in Shanxi Province and some long-distance normal trains from surrounding Northern cities. You will get to Pingyao Ancient City Railway Station if you take high speed train from Beijing, Datong, Xian, Taiyuan, etc. Though the two stations share similar name, they actually have different locations, railway schedules and transportation to Pingyao Ancient City and other landmarks. Pingyao Ancient City Railway Station 平遥古城站 - High Speed Train Station in Pingyao

Pingyao Ancient City Railway Station, also called Pingyao Gucheng Railway Station, is a high speed train station particularly built for the Datong-Xian High Speed Railway. Opened on July 1, 2014, it is the second largest high speed train station in Jinzhong City with the biggest number of parking trains.

Address: Between Houji Village and Du Village, Pingyao County, Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province 山西省晋中市平遥县侯冀村与杜村之间

Distance: about 10 km from Pingyao Ancient City; about 4 km from Shuanglin Temple; 22 km from Zhenguo Temple; around 50 km from Qiao’s Family Compound and Wang’s Family Compound respectively and nearly 40 km from Zhangbi Ancient Castle.

Covering an area of 4,998 square meters, Pingyao Ancient City Railway Station is a small high speed train station with merely 4 tracks and 2 platforms. There is a huge circular square in front of the station. You can easily find Ticket Office, Entrance at the first floor. The interior environment including the Waiting Area is very clean and tidy. Before checking ticket and boarding, you can rest a while on the cushioned seat. And, please remember to notice the electronic screen and broadcast in the Waiting Hall.

How to Get from Pingyao Ancient City Railway Station to Major Attractions in Pingyao

Pingyao Ancient Railway Station lies in the west suburb of Pingyao Ancient City. Therefore, train travelers need extra transfer to Pingyao Ancient City and other attractions in Pingyao. Shuanglin Temple with over 2,000 exquisite painted clay sculptures is the nearest tourist attraction.

As an intermediate high speed train station on Datong Xian High Speed Railway, Pingyao Ancient City Railway Station handles all high speed trains (G trains & D trains) to/off Pingyao. Pingyao Railway Station 平遥站 – Normal Train Station in Pingyao

Built in 1933, Pingyao Railway Station is an old train station in Pingyao running regular speed trains to/off Pingyao on Tongpu Railway (Datong-Yuncheng Railway) - the one and only railway passing through Pingyao Railway Station.

Because the north-south Datong-Yuncheng Railway is the sole rail line though Pingyao Railway Station, the station just handles short-haul and mid-range normal trains (K trains) between Pingyao and cities within Shanxi Province, like Datong, Taiyuan, Xinzhou, Ningwu, Jiexiu, Linfen, Shuozhou and so on.
