Day 1 Kunming Arrival

Ni Hao! Welcome to Kunming, the Spring City of China! Upon arrival, you will be met by our local guide at the arrival hall of Kunming Changshui Airport or train station and escorted to your downtown hotel by a private comfortable vehicle. The rest of today is free on your own to explore this beautiful city.

Arrival Ideas: Travelers from more than 140 cities (international and domestic cities included) can take flights to Kunming. Also, travelers can take high speed trains to Kunming from Guangzhou (about 6hrs), Shenzhen (about 7hrs), Changsha (about 6hrs), Shanghai (about 12hrs) and Beijing (about 12hrs), etc.

Day 2 Kunming (B, L)

After breakfast, your guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel. First, drive about 85km to Stone Forest with the most unique karst landform in the world which has been UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of South China Karst. Walk into the Greater Stone Forest, marvel at groups of gray-black stone peaks and climb up a pavilion to have a panoramic view of the intricate stone forest. Visit the Lesser Stone Forest and listen to the legendary story of “Ashima”. It will be a real treat to visit the extraordinary natural stone forest where you feel like come into a “stone world”.

After the tour, you’ll be transferred back to Kunming to visit the Bird & Flower Market where you can experience the local people’ real life. Since all reasons in Kunming is like spring, you will find multiple types of flowers, birds, fishes, antiques, handicrafts, etc. Here, you’ll find why Kunming is reputed as the Spring City of China.

Major Stone Forest

Day 3 Kunming (B, L)

On this day, you’ll start a relaxing tour to visit Yunnan Minority Village, an epitome of ethnic groups of Yunnan. In the minority village, you can not only get to know ethnic architecture styles, costumes, customs, funny marriage, etiquette, but also interact with the ethnic people, sing folk songs, dance with them and even taste some ethnic snacks.

Later, continue your trip to visit Western Hills which looks like a beautiful young lady lying beside Dianchi Lake. Western Hill is a large forest park perfectly combined natural scenery with cultural relics. There is a famous saying – if you do not visit Western Hill, you haven’t visited Kunming; if you do not come to Dragon Gate, you haven’t been to Western Hill. Climb up to see the magic Dragon Gate for a panoramic view of the “Pearl on the Plateau” - Dianchi Lake. Take some time to visit Dragon Gate Grottoes and San Qing Pavilion before getting down the hill.

Next, transfer to the most picturesque park in Kunming urban area - the Green Lake Park. Here you can share the happiness of local people’s doing tai chi, performing local opera, and other vibrant activities. If you visit the park in November or December, you will see the grandeur of huge flocks of black-headed gulls that migrate there from Siberia.

Day 4 High Speed Train to Kaili from Kunming (B)

In this morning, you’ll be escorted to Kunming South Railway Station for a high speed train to Kaili (about 3hrs), the capital of Southeast Guizhou which is well known for Miao ethnic group. Upon arrival, the local guide will meet you at Kaili South Railway Station and take you for today’s sightseeing.

In the afternoon, pay a visit to Matang Village where you can see Gejia group who are not listed into 55 minority groups in China just because of their small population. You will appreciate the traditional Gejia batik in the village, and learn the art of batik (extra payment).

Stay overnight in Kaili.

Day 5 Kaili (B, L)

After breakfast, begin your Miao ethnic minority exploration. Your first stop today is to visit Kaili Ethnic Minority Museum, where you can get a general idea of the Miao and the Dong in this region.

Later, proceed to visit Qingman Miao Village, where the women wear a kind of traditional short-skirt. In a local household, you may see the traditional way of dying cotton material.

The last stop of today is Shiqiao Miao Village. In Shiqiao, you’ll see the old people still keep their old tradition of making special paper with trees’ bark by hand, which could be dated back to 700 years in Guizhou.

After the tour, drive back to Kaili.

Qingman Miao Village

Day 6 Kaili (B, L)

After breakfast, pay in-depth visit to explore Miao's history and culture in Jidao Miao Village, Upper Langde Miao Village, and Datang Miao Village.

Jidao Miao Village (Long Shirt Miao), located 20 km southeast of Kaili, remains original and tranquil with idyllic surroundings. Visit Shangzhai and Xiazhai and explore Old Geomantic Trees, time-horned granaries, the Cave of the Immortal, the Footprints of buffalos and Horses and more sites.

Upper Langde Miao Village (Long Skirt Miao) is 30 km away from Kaili. Visitors to Langde Village are welcomed by the 12 courses of “block-way” rice wine, then visit the traditional Miao-style stilt houses enjoy sweet Miao folk songs.

Datang Miao Village (Short Skirt Miao), also called Xinqiao Miao Village, is another branch of Miao live for hundreds years. This village is special for the unique “miniskirts”, as short as 10 centimeters, that the local women wear all year round. You could enjoy and participate in the local dance in the village square.

After the Miao villages’ exploration, drive to Xijiang. If interested, enjoy the beautiful night view of Xijiang Miao Village. Stay overnight in Xijiang.

Upper Langde Miao Village

Day 7 Kai & Guiyang Departure (B)

After breakfast, have in-depth exploration in Xijiang Miao Village, the largest Miao village in Asia, with more than 1000 Miao households. While walking on the paths, you will appreciate an amazing view of the river valley with terraced fields, intricate wooden houses, enjoy Miao’s traditional clothing, daily life and join to sing and dance.

After the tour, drive 2.5 hours to Guiyang and be escorted to Guiyang Airport to catch your flight to next destination.

5A: It would be nice if you could give a little warning that the water level in Chongqing might be too low around this time of year. Originally, our cruise was scheduled to end at Chongqing Chaotianmen port. But because of the low water level, we had to disembark somewhere else and took a 2-hour drive to Chaotianmen. The cruise arranges the transfer smoothly and it worked out fine in the end. But if this is something that happens usually around this time of year, it would be nice to be given a little warning beforehand.

You have the final say whether you want it or not. It would be better to decide when you are in the destinations. On one hand, the shows and performances may change according to season and weather. Useful Advice: Make sure you’ll arrive at Pudong Airport and arrival time is able to take it.

If you arrive in Shanghai at Pudong International Airport, taking a high-tech maglev train to Pudong New Area will be awesome experience for your first stop in Shanghai. Also, you could transfer from downtown to the airport. It is available from 06:45 to 21:42, with services every 15 to 20 minutes. The 30 km journey just takes 7 minutes and 20 seconds. You could imagine how fast it is.

Option Three: Cruise on Huangpu River

Available Cruising: in the daytime & at night

Duration: about 45 minutes

Useful Advice: Cruise ships vary in size, decoration and amenities. Choose the one which best suits for your time.

Huangpu River is a silent eyewitness to Shanghai’s history and development. Taking a cruise on Huangpu River will let you witness modern side of Shanghai and feel the old Shanghai culture. The cruise ships usually depart from the wharf close to the Bund. After board on the ship, you’ll view many spectacular sights both on the west and east bank along Huangpu River. Along west bank, see The Bund, Monument to the People’s Heroes, Waibaidu Bridge, etc. Along the east bank, view Shanghai Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Jinmao Tower, Lujiazui Financial Zone, etc.

You need to pack some personal gears, such as light and comfortable walking shoes, outdoor coat and pants. You'd better also pack sun cream, sun glasses.

Tibet Travel Tips

1. A valid passport, a valid China visa and Tibet Permits are necessary documents for traveling in Tibet.

2. In Tibet, we suggest you avoid strong activity; do not take shower at the first day; drink more water and avoid of alcohol; better not to take oxygen if your AMS symptoms are mild. Vegetarian food Requirement

Vegetarian food in Chinese cuisine culture is usually divided into 3 categories: the Monastery Vegetarian Food, the Court Vegetarian Food and the Folk Vegetarian Food. And the main ingredients are: soybean, taro powder, mushrooms, fresh vegetables and tofu (bean curd). It will be easier to find the vegetarian restaurants in big cities of china, such as: Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, HK, etc.

If allergic to some food

We suggest you to list any food or ingredients that you are allergic to and let our travel consultant know. Then your travel consultant will mark them in the guide’s itinerary, so that our guides in different cities can make some preparations and arrangements in advance.

Do our guide and driver join the meal with us?

The tour guides and driver will be at the same restaurants with you, but they will only join the meal when you invite. Sometimes the drivers are shy to join as they usually eat fast and could not understand English talk around the table, so the guide will be with you more often.

Will we be able to try some local foods during our visit?

Yes, you will. There will be some meals excluded in your itinerary as you like, and your private guide will be delighted to give you some suggestions and take you to the local restaurants, if you are interested in local food tasting. But remember, some local snacks may not match your stomach, so ask your guided for more information before eating.

What to buy in China?

In China, there are myriads of souvenirs for visitors, and each city has its own specialty.

Some of the best buys are:

How to bargain?

Bargains are not acceptable in big supermarkets and department stores. But in some night markets or tourist shops, you can bargain for a lower price, since the vendors always ask for very high price for a certain item. You’d better ask the opinion of the guide first, and then the guide will tell you the real value and quality of the item. Please note that when the bargain is processing, the guide will be hesitate to help as it may annoy the bosses. Just try to let the guides know you will bargain in advance.

What to do with persistent vendors?

If you do not need something from them, just do not ask for price. Some of the venders are very persisted, and if they keep selling things to you, you can simply say “No, thanks.” (Chinese pronunciation: ”Bu, XieXie”). If they do not give up, you just keep silence. Silence is sometimes useful to handle this situation.

More Tips for free-time shopping

1. If you think you have no desire or interest, you do not feel embarrassed to let our guide know DIRECTLY (since some of our guides are enthusiastic in taking you shopping)
2. Better to choose the shops run by the state when buying expensive articles.
3. Do not shop everything in one city, because every place has its unique local products which worth buying.
4. Do not feel obligate to buy anything only because the shop attendants are very kind to you.
5. Be smart consumers. Do not spend big money on things you are not familiar with. Do ask for shop guarantee, contacts and certificates when purchasing big items like antiques, jade, arts pieces.
6. Leave plenty of time for transactions. When you see something you like - buy it. Usually, you would not find it elsewhere and you would not have time to go back.
7. Always verify the date of antiques before you purchase them. Antiques dated before 1795 cannot legally be exported.
8. Articles made from rare wild animals are contraband and will be confiscated by customs without compensation.
